Thomas Smith, mason. (Warner Hist of Barlick p.77. Refers to the building of the new National School in Church Street which later became St James church) 'No letting was made on August 9th but on October 3rd 1836 a contract for masonry was accepted at £120 from Thomas Smith, mason.'

Directory reports Thomas Wilkinson Smith as victualler and farmer at Seven Stars. Elector of Barlick 1848 at Seven Stars. [A Thomas Wilkinson Smith was one of the promoters of the Barnoldswick Railway Act of 1867.]

In a conveyance of 1859 of the Corn Mill Thomas Wilkinson Smith is one of the named parties to the conveyance of the property to William Bracewell of Newfield Edge.

Mr Thomas Smith noted as living in Rook Street in Barrett's directory.

Barrett's directory reports Thomas Smith as an overlooker living on Sagar Terrace.

LTP, 78/AB/04. Billy Brooks says that Tom Smith was a tackler in Robinson Brooks' shed at Long Ing Shed. He lived in the mill yard in one of the cottages on the edge of the canal.
c.1930?
In 'A Way of Life Gone By' p. 68. Fred Smith's grandfather, George, was a ganger on the Settle-Carlisle line but moved to Barlick because there was work in the mills for his daughters. He worked as farm man at Hollins for 5/- a week and later in the quarry. His son, Tom Smith opened a dairy on Rainhall Road and hawked milk round the town. Fred followed in his footsteps and used to farm Bancroft before Simpsons who were at Moses Lea then but later lived on Park Road. SCG delivered kit milk to him in 1950s behind 17 Park Avenue.
1931
C Herald 23/01/1931. Report of the death of T Smith (73) Colne Road. He was manager of the Victoria Spinning Mill when it was owned by the late Mr Dugdale and succeeded his father in law Mr Moorhouse, in the job. It was during Mr Moorhouse's tenure that the mill was destroyed by fire.
