When I was a child and at the time Uncle George was a lorry driver he used to hop over a fence into a conifer plantation and bring us home a Xmas tree. Just think, we could have been done for receiving stolen goods. Little Tizer could have spent his Xmas in the nick!

In Scotland we lived very close to an estate where they grew Xmas trees and often the tractor & trailer full of freshly cut trees would pass by our cottage on it's way home. We were also right beside a hump backed bridge........

I was patiently waiting to one side as hubby got some funds from the hole in the wall the other day and overheard a group of seniors discussing the makings of their Christmas Cakes and Puddings. One I found quite unbelievable...a gent stating that he uses a litre of Whisky in his cake. Apart from being inedible, I imagine it would be quite lethal. Had to pick my jaw up from the floor after that little gem.

Wendy, a bit like coal 'dropping' off the locos at a convenient point on the track near home.....
Today they have another name, Panic Monday, even more will be spent today than on Saturday. Not by this kiddy, the foil is working well. (Mind you, I had the urge to but a £60 boring head for my mill last night but resisted. My heart is strong because I am pure.....

There was a story, supposed to be true, that a certain engine crew on the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (the `Slow & Dirty' as it was known here) used to pass the driver's mum's rural cottage on their journey each day. At each pass they would chuck out a cob of coal to roll down the embankment and into her garden. But one day the cob was extra large and as they watched it bounce down the slope they thought "Oh no, we're going to be in trouble now!" It had veered off to one side, dropped down a steep bit, and demolished the old dear's garden shed! They had to start dropping off timber and then rebuild the shed for her.

I'll believe it, it was common practice and the story crops up time and time again. It was good coal as well with big cobs, the fireman had to have a hammer handy for the really big lumps. You never see coal like that these days unless you can get bulk 'run of the mine'. But then you get the dross as well.

Listening for the first tinkle of sleigh bells...still a bit early...but they may give the odd sound as they get polished today, and sometimes the bells get bumped as things get loaded in the sleigh. It's those damned bikes that take up all the room and cause problems for the elves.

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of being Santa for some very challenged youngsters who make me feel humble every time I see them. I managed to overcome the greatest challenge of a 5 year old that might have recognised me but she was that busy hugging my leg and singing Jingle Bells to care about Colin .....only Santa. One very ill 10 year old was unable to get out of bed but gave me the most gorgeous smile when I went in to see her and I was almost in tears. A brave 17 year old that spends most of his time in his room was pleased that I called in for a chat about football.....but wanted me to come back in the full Santa mode with his gift as this would be my last visit to him as he is moving to his own adapted accommodation. Thanks to all those lovely kiddies and their wonderful carers for reminding me what humanity and Christmas is all about. Merry Christmas everyone. Nolic

Merry Christmas too...though I wasn't really leg less...had a thimble full of Baileys ( though I am not a big fan) and an early night as we have a lot on today. Wasn't too pleased to be wide awake by 5am but often the case after an early night. I had a bubble bath and was dressed before hubby was even awake this morning.

Tiz mentioned this old topic and I have been thinking about it for a while. As far as I know the glory days of Mrs Trelliss and Boris are long gone but it was always a useful vehicle for whingeing about Xmas. Anyone want to have a go? I am sure that Ian's OCD will kick in and he'll alter the date....

Notable that even in these early days the car park at the Cathedral of Choice is busier than usual... Why do people need more food at Xmas than any other time of the year?

I'm off over Bluberhouses tomorrow and on the 15th December so I'll keep an eye out for Boris O Storiths and Beamsley Bob. I was over there last week red lights but they were only aircraft warning lights on some very tall wind turbines. Mind you Menwith Hill looks very suspicious in the dark with the golf balls glowing. Menwith Hill has always been suspicious at this time of year - knowing more than they are letting on. Maybe others have replaced Mrs. Trellis & Boris.......

Menwith Hill is a place of mystery. One thing is certain, they don't want you to know what exactly they do there. The mind boggles as they say.

I have to report that I was unable to make contact with either Boris or Bob. The weather was atrocious on both journeys and locals said that they were both holed up in a shooting hut on Addingham Moor. I'm away over that way in 2 week so I'll have another scout around. Any word from Mrs Trellis? Nolic

I have tried to contact her but so far I have had no reply. The last time I heard she was investigating alternative technology because Boris has lost his interest in cycle wheel powered detectors. There is also the fact that the flashes from explosions in the East will interfere with any findings. I shall try to get word from her again.....

Maybe she has met up with Mother Shipton and there is no signal in the cave.
