I slow cooked a ham hock in spiced cider on Wednesday and yesterday I got two plain teacakes and a small apple pie. I had half of the pie and a ham and tomato butty for dinner and the same for tea. Still hungry so I had two small fried egg butties to fill up.

Spicy bean burgers chopped up and stuck in a tortilla with plenty of garlic mayo, and a piece of cheese & garlic flatbread topped off with potato salad and coleslaw. Weird mix but it filled a hole.

Now washing it down with a bottle of red

I was expecting a wrap up from Kath yesterday as they are starting a holiday. I like wrap-ups.... So I only got Jacks meat and a couple of meat pies when I went down there. I had a pie and half a tin of beans for dinner and tea. The wrap up arrived at 17:00 so I had two slices of lemon drizzle cake with the icing taken off and a slice of quiche for a fill up. I have a freezer full of meat now!

The wrap up gave me cottage pie with crust and added peas for dinner and two small burger and fried egg butties for tea. Fruit for pudding as usual!

Dinner was a slice of quiche, two sausage and peas to top up. Tea was two small sausage and fried tomato butties topped up by six small oatcakes with Boursin and apple slices. Small quantities but big taste!

There was a nice piece of brisket in the wrap-up on Friday. I put it in the slow cooker with vinegar, spices, two tomatoes, two rough cut onions and cooked it. Towards the end I put a tin of new potatoes in and when the meat was cooked I strained the veggies out of the gravy, chopped them and added a bit of salad cream. It made a lovely potato salad. Yesterday I baked a loaf, the first for weeks and dinner and tea were sliced boiled brisket and potato salad butties. Very, very nice!
[Yes Maz, I remembered your question about tinned potatoes for a salad. The news is they are perfect!]

I had two brisket and potato salad butties for dinner and at tea time I had 7 small rough oatcakes with Boursin and a slice of apple. Felt in need of a top up so I had one thin slice of bread with peanut butter.

One small lamb burger butty for dinner and a couple of slices of malt loaf. For tea I had another butty, slightly bigger, two slices of bread, with fried tomato and the remaining burger. Then, to my shame, I finished the malt loaf off, with butter! [I can't be trusted with a Soreen loaf....] Fruit as usual and this included a ripe mango. I was reminded how nice Mango flesh is but how much waste and mess is involved in eating them! They are all stone and skin.

My mum used to say "roll up your sleeves and eat it over the sink." She was right the juice drips off your elbows.

When I had a full beard I always said the only place to eat them was in the bath! I used your mum's method, over the sink.
I had some good bacon ribs so, yesterday, after boiling them to lower salt levels I popped them in the slow cooker with beans, peas and spuds and a tin of chopped tomatoes. This wasn't ready for dinner so I had a funny half bowl of new potatoes, a small tin of mushy peas and two poached eggs. Surprisingly good!
I de-boned the ribs and shredded the bacon and had a half bowl for tea. It was lovely. Had half a bowl of muesli as well because I fancied it.

I started the day by extending the bacon rib stew with more spuds and some carrots. I had half a bowl for dinner and put two half bowls in the freezer and one in the fridge. I had treated myself to some oven bottoms at the Co-op and for tea I had two with Stilton cheese and tomato. I was still hungry and so allowed myself two more, one with a fried egg on and one with peanut butter and apricot conserve. I know! But I really enjoyed them and they aren't very big.......

My butcher was closed this week for holidays so yesterday I had to take stock. The first thing I did was fry the onions and tomatoes in the dish on the window cill and make a powerful sauce. Then I boiled carrots and steamed a large cauliflower. I had the bacon rib stew in reserve but for dinner I had cauliflower and sme of the sauce. Had the same for tea but with the addition of some carrot and chips for a change. Not a big bowl and I had the last two oven bottoms with butter and apricot conserve on for pudding!

Leaving aside the two bowls of rib stew in the freezer I had enough left in the fridge to make two bowls when combined with the mashed carrots, and extended with Chips. So that was dinner and tea taken care of. I took the pork out of the cider and after de-fatting it I put it in the fridge. The cider gravy was too good to waste so I turned it into a veggie stew and this morning diced half the pork and added that as well, the piece was too big for one man to eat in butties! I've put a loaf in and the stew plus meat gets a final cook before freezing.....

I had a small bowl of the pork and veggie stew for dinner and froze the rest. My loaf didn't rise properly but was perfectly edible. I think I put too much salt in.... Had a pork and apple butty for tea and a small bowl of Muesli.

I boiled some carrots and steamed Savoy cabbage on top. Would you believe I forgot it was on the stove and burned the carrots? The cabbage was OK, good job it was Savoy, it takes a lot to overcook it. Had a small bowl of stew with a few rescued carrots for dinner and a ripe mango. Very thin sliced ham and apple sauce butty for tea and nibble at the cabbage.

The last of the unfrozen cider gravy stew with cabbage and a top up of peas for dinner. Tea was the last of the boiled pork in a butty. Boiled pork isn't very exciting so I fried it first to give it a bit of a kick. A mango eaten over the sink for pudding!

Steak pudding and peas for dinner and a peach. I had a small peppered steak and six sausages so to save electricity I put the lot in the slow cooker with a tin of chopped tomatoes and the usual condiments. Dropped a tin of potatoes on top for the same reason. At tea time I fished the steak out and had it on two tiny butties, filled up with nuts and fruit. I've put the cooker on again and will add a swede. I have some carrots and cauliflower (big one 49p. £1.07 for one half the size at the Co-op!) and will cook them this morning.

Fish and chips from the local shop. You need to do this every now and then just to remind you how awful they are. Where on earth do they get the potatoes they use for chips - shocking.

I set some diced shoulder of lamb off in the slow cooker this morning along with onion, garlic and stock. I have taken a portion out along with a quantity of gravy and chucked it into a small crock pot along with a couple of quartered tomatoes, three small quartered firm potatoes, juice of half a lemon and some oregano. I have foil sealed the top along with the lid and it's bubbling away in the bottom of the oven for the next few hours, it should come out something like a kleftiko which is my favourite Greek dish. I'm in two minds whether to go out and get a bit of feta which is normally added as a few cubes towards the end of the cooking cycle.

Looking forward to the real thing later this month when we get to our island of choice.
