Commiserations Wendy, they are horrible. I once had one under an impacted wisdom tooth in 1954 and my gum was so swollen I couldn't eat. In those days it was four days in hospital, largely to get over the effects of the anaesthetic. Never had one since because five years later I had all my teeth out. That solved that problem!
I never got in the shed yesterday, other matters got in the way but I intend to be in there today!

Today is a bit of garden tidying and cutting back. We haven't done any bar cutting the lawn once since we came. The lavender is over , the mint looks very shaggy and the rosemary and sage have died. The mombretia(?) is in a dried up heap.

Apparently there is going to be a wine shortage because of the wet spring and excessively hot dry summer. It will be an early start as another day of 29-30 is forecast.

Two cortisone injections into my shoulder today. I plucked up courage a month or so ago only to be told that another doctor does the injection. Woe is me! I have told Honey not to pull on the lead (she always does for the first 400 yards) but she does not listen. Left handed walking tomorrow for both her and Sam-u-el.

I hope all goes well Julie.
Archive room for me this morning, I'm feeling a bit brighter and I don't look quite as much like a puffer fish as I did yesterday.

Good luck Julie , the injections worked wonders on my thumb and my toe. After three injections spaced 6 months apart I no longer have limited range of movement due to arthritis of the joints. The joints are still swollen looking , but there is no pain and a complete range of movement

I’m going to the Hoylake Beer Festival tonight, which has run every August BH for the last 4 years. Sixty-five different beers, a number of ciders and a perry or two; wine and local artisan gin. The purpose is to provide us all with the opportunity to drink some nice beer and much else, but more importantly it is the major fund-raising event for the monies needed to pop a lift in the very old and very large and very well-used community centre right on the front where the festival is held. The lift-works are now underway. Live music, hog roast and about half the town’ll be there. Very good it is, a real community event.

Then I’m off to Italy for a month next week, so will be quiet for a while.

Sounds like a good plan Richard. Nice to know at least one community is working for a social good.
Back in the shed to finish a little job I am on with. No biggie but another improvement.

Almost every man and his dog told me how much the cortisone injection would be painful. I didn't find it to be so. I live to tell the tale. Am on light duties for a while so today I shall be mainly not doing what I want.

First time on my thumb was excruciating, I cannot describe the pain. The next two were painless.

I didn't so I must be the almost! Glad it went OK Julie. Depends on your injury but I might as well say that my injections only gave temporary relief. It was, (is) the physio exercises given and undertaken that have given the most benefit.

I think it depends on the problem, my injections were for osteo arthritis and not nerve or muscular problems. I agree about Physio, my shoulder is better now I think, although a return to Pilates in two weeks may prove that is not so.

Quill lock is finished. See Shed matters for what I am doing today, rectifying a mistake I made on the latest engines. It's been nattering me ever since I finished them!

Friends arrived yesterday to the coldest dullest day since we came in July. More of the same this morning. In fact it still looks dark at 8.45 am. It's warmer than the UK though.

I did a sausage making course last night at a local butchers shop. (For those in Aus it was with Paul Mercurio and he was very 'normal'.)

I grew up being told that sausages were full of rubbish meat that no-one would buy. How wrong....We started by boning a forequarter of pork each. We made a small batch in a bench top sausage maker and then made the bulk using the industrial mincer. I was really surprised how easy it was.

The only downside was that we took home 4kg of sausages each!! It will be a while before we eat our way through these and I can make some of my own. I will be sharing with friends and family!!

Christian, shellfish can be dangerous! That's why I avoid them.
Liz, sausages, like people, come in a variety of qualities.... Yours will be fine, just freeze them in batches.

Not sure yet what I'll be doing, I am in limbo at the moment in the shed because until the lads visit with the goodies and to collect the engine I am not sure where I am going next. I have a different sort of engine in mind....... [LINK]

Off on a boat trip today on the Gulf of Morbihan , including a three hour stopover on one of the islands. Schools in France, La Rentree, start back today so the boat should be quiet !

Shell fish can be dangerous but not if prepared correctly and bought from a reputable supplier. I would never collect my own or eat them raw. Some people are allergic to them and often believe they have got food poisoning from them when it is a straight forward allergy...and of course vice versa.

Well its certainly given me a kicking whether its an allergy or a poisoning, Nearly a week on and I'm still not straight. Never had problems before but allergies can develop over time?
