Our resident magpie had a bird on the lawn this morning, it flew off with it before I could save it, poor little thing had a wing flapping.

It’s so hard sometimes when it comes to wildlife isn’t it Gloria. We are told not to interfere with the natural ways and order.
In my front garden I enjoy a variety of birds and have always felt that they feel quite safe there.
In the last few weeks a few (domestic) cats have taken a liking to these birds. A particular 2 cats actually ‘work together’ to terrorise and hunt the birds.
I wish our Council would hurry up and make Cat Curfews a definite thing.

Yes I agree Cathy, and it’s probably feeding young. There was a spate a year or two back of magpies getting the eyes of newborn lambs.

That's why I can't watch wildlife films. I hate it when they kill each other. God knows why, we humans do enough of it!

Our problem is with pigeons. We have a pond and also a bowl of water intended for the birds. Small birds are fine and even the odd magpie or jackdaw but pigeons come down, take a drink then site in the water and often poo in it too. Other birds can't get at the water when a pigeon is in the bowl. Now the pigeons are coming down in pairs and standing in the bowl! It was bad enough in the past but these pigeons are coming from the local park where they get fed bread by people. They no longer fear humans and are difficult to shoo away. You can walk up to them and wave your arms and make noises and they stand there staring at you! They're `pigoen-brained'! :laugh5:

My solution Tize is to put another water bowl out for the birds. I have 3 and all the birds have a chance to get fresh drinking water and a good splash about.

We had one of these in the garden yesterday, the size of my thumb. It ignored us and we were able to get very close to examine it. A beautiful animal! When it eventually flew away a smaller one landed on the same plant! https://www.animal.photos/insect2/ch-rose.htm

You're right Peter, a lovely creature. I could forgive it eating my roses if one landed in my garden.

The Lilac bush has excelled itself this year, masses of blossom.

Has that large weed grown again in your yard Stanley? I've forgotten it's name, but they were everywhere last year.

No it hasn't. Funny thing that, I was thinking about them this morning, so many of them about but nowhere near the size of that one.

In recent months the group of Asian Elephants has travelled through many villages, towns and cities in south west China, captivating the county. It remains unknown why the animals decided to leave home. Authorities are tracking their movements.'

Yes I watched the Elephant video too Tize. They were very determined to be on the move.
Last time I saw an image of Elephants sleeping like that , they had ingested some greenery tha t they shouldn’t have and we’re sleeping off a ‘high’.
