Didn't the original ones collapse many years ago? Do you remember the queues on the A1 to cross the river at Ferrybridge?

Yes Wendy, November 1965, I saw it happening as I was passing on the A1 going south. It was surreal and you couldn't believe your eyes. My mate Geoff Shackleton was manager there later and he told me that in high winds they still closed the internal roads in the plant. (see THIS short Youtube video of the one coming down yesterday.
Hochenheim, a very eventful race! Toto Wolf had a bad day at the office and Mercedes had a melt down in the pits. Worth watching again......

I learnt on The Chase today that China only has one time zone. Very strange for such a huge amount of landmass.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

I suspect it is so business hours can be streamlined, Cathy. It has to be of economic advantage.

That is right, but in the far west regions of Xinjiang they use an unofficial local time which is 2 hours behind Beijing time.

But what about the daylight from one side of China to the other with no daylight saving. Is one side doing business very early and the other side it's midday?

But having said that, here in Oz I think 12 midday is only 8.30 or 9.30am in Perth.

Cathy, this is from the BBC news site: `Three people have been killed and 15 injured after a gunman attacked a food festival in California. The gunman was shot dead by police shortly after he began firing, although police are investigating reports that a second suspect may still be at large. The Gilroy Garlic Festival was about to end for the weekend on Sunday evening, when shots were fired at the site. There was "a white man in his early to mid-30s firing a rifle," eyewitness Julissa Contreras told NBC...*....The suspect entered the festival after cutting through a perimeter fence, Gilroy Chief of Police Scot Smithee told reporters. He said witnesses reported that a second suspect may have been involved, possibly in a support role. Officers were already at the site and responded to the shooting in less than a minute, Chief Smithee added.'

*I isolated this sentence because it's mind-boggling: ` It was the 246th mass shooting in the US this year, according to US tracking website Gun Violence Archive.'

It's a very contentious subject here in China. China has ONE time zone - Beijing time - and the authority to ensure everyone complies with that diktat. Meanwhile, in Xingjiang, the Uighurs (who are muslims) dare to have timepieces set 2 hours behind Beijing, a kind of protest! And look up what is happening to the Uighurs!

Brilliant Cathy! I didn't know that either.
I suspect that in practical terms it will not be a major disadvantage. Makes train timetables a lot lot more simple! People will still live their lives by the sun....
The fact that despite my advancing years people still seek me out for esoteric knowledge. Matthew Engels is after the contents of my head for his new book. Nice.....
Garlic festival shooting. I agree Tiz. The capacity of systems and governments to ignore the obvious must never surprise us. We are basically stupid and uncivilised as a species. I can see no other conclusion.

Well done on getting a buyer and having your offer on the other house accepted. I don't want to spoil your excitement, Kev, but don't count your chickens until they're hatched! That's always been important in house transactions and even more so now. It's the norm at the moment to have buyers drop out for various reasons and houses often take a long time to get to signed contracts. I hope that yours proves to be different and that you'll get a smooth and quick transaction. Consider yourself very lucky if that's the case!

I see that the Met Office has confirmed that the 38.7C (101.7F) officially recorded in the Cambridge University Botanic Garden on Thursday is UK's highest-ever temperature. I wonder if Tripps happened to be in the Cambridge Botanic Garden that day? It would be fun to be able to say `I was there'!

I'm buying an empty property with no chain and my buyer has sold their current house to a first time buyer, hopefully all will be good.

That was the day my car showed 40 C - so I can calibrate the thermometer. I passed within half a mile of the Botanical Gardens. I will be claiming 'bragging rights' .

Glad to see that Tory housing policies are working..... We shall expect all the Lancashire news now Kev.....
Grumbling thunder but no repetition of the 1932 flood!
Trump seems to be acting more and more aggressively. I wonder how far he is prepared to go in order to get re-elected?

When the pedestrian crossing traffic lights were installed in Foulridge, a long time ago now, one of the Foulridge inmates told me they would cause chaos with traffic queued up back to Colne. So far I've been stopped twice. If chaos does magically take off I shall blame Kev.
Lancashire news doesn't start until you get to Preston. Everywhere else is too busy decaying away, highest entropy state in scientific terms.

It's hard to get away from reports about Trump.
Is there anyone from history that he reminds you of? Or any of the major modern time politicians?

You're an old cynic.....
Here's one for Tiz. I tried to order 2 boxes of vinyl shed gloves on Amazon this morning but gave up eventually because I couldn't find a way of getting to the check out, the site seemed to want me to go into Prime. That's it as far as I am concerned, bugger Amazon. They lost a customer.
Just seen your post Cathy. No. I've never seen anything as bad as Trump, he is in a class of his own.
