The fact that I have a new title in my Kenyan family, the Kiragu Nation. I am now Mzee Stanley, a direct translation is Sir Stanley. :biggrin2:

Thanks China!
David, no, I have already been initiated, sung in and had a celebratory dance to mark the occasion. My only qualification is being grandfather to Jessica and I believe the fact I am the oldest living member of the Kiragu Nation.
It's an honorary title and it says something about me that given a choice between Mzee and a knighthood I'd take the former. :biggrin2:

One for Panbiker. My cousin, her husband and two daughters (14 and 20) plan to visit Greece this year to take in some of the sights, enjoy the food and have some beach time too. They welcome suggestions of where to go. The plan is to fly to Athens and spend time, probably the first week, there and then for the second week travel to one of the islands. They are very active and will do a lot of walking and they're good swimmers too. Any suggestions welcome, from Panbiker or otherwise (I know Panny has a love of Greece!). Thanks.

We have enjoyed all the islands we have visited, Rhodes, Crete, Cyprus, Kefalonia, Corfu, Skiathos and Zakynthos, never been to the mainland. Many of the islands in the Ionian Sea off the West cost of the mainland are accessible by ferry. Been to Zakynthos more than once and I would say that it was possibly our favourite. Stayed off the beaten track in a small village in the North East of the island, Alykes, fantastic beaches, lots of choice for food, odd bar with music but in the main a pretty chilled out place.

Thanks, Ian. Mrs Tiz has been to the Peloponnese but that was with a natural history tour group. She's been to Mycenae, Pylos and the Corinth Canal. Also another specialist trip to Crete.

Janet loved the Greek Islands especially because Harry was Greek ancestry. She made sure the kids went there and saw the places important to them after Harry was killed.

When you consider how much of the south-east of England sits on chalk it's a wonder there aren't many more sinkholes appearing.

Like many, I have watched videos of sink holes, some of which render whole towns uninhabitable. One more thing we don't need to lose sleep about in Barlick, being a hill town on a watershed we are mainly founded on sandstone bedrock just under the surface and have never had any mining under the town. What water flows there are are negligible as we are so high up in the Pennines. (500ft is high round here!) Even the parts that are North of the Craven fault and on limestone seem safe as the rock seems to be impervious and there are no excessive flows of water to test them because of the watershed.
The thing that is grabbing my attention today is the bummer of having to wait up for my new phone instead of going to bed as usual, it has to be signed for. Snoozing in the rocking chair I suspect with Jack acting as postie alarm!

I've had this card for four or five years - very eco friendly - it still works, and it's time to look at it again. It still makes me smile.

I hope it arrives on time. We were promised a delivery from John Lewis via DHL between 13.25 and 14.25 on Monday but it didn't arrive. No warning, just a late DHL email saying `Your delivery has been delayed but will be delivered later today'. It didn't arrive later that day. Their web site simply said something like `There has been a problem'. Mid-morning today we got an email saying it will be delivered at 15.00-16.00 today. Fingers crossed. Apparently the couriers are swamped with unwanted Xmas gifts being returned!

It all worked out fine apart from missing my sleep! (I was in bed at 20:00 to make up!)
What's grabbing me now of course is playing with it to find out how to use it! I can see this taking a while. I am with the kids for tea tonight, I shall consult them! I'll take my old phone to see if they can transfer data.....
