I love garlic too. Spatchcock chicken, new potatoes & broccolli last night - roast brisket tonight with mash & roast potatoes, roast parsnip, mashed carrot & swede, yorkshire pudding & gravy.

You are a bastion of traditional English cooking Moh! Froze five bowls of stew yesterday. Had a burger and fried tomato butty for dinner and another butty made from St Augur cheese and olives for tea with a tiny halping of stew for a top up. Stew today....

Stew for dinner and the last of it cold on a butty for tea. The older it is the better it tastes!

We were brought up on traditional meals, and hubby thinks he's missing out if there is no meat & potatoes (or rice)!!
Chicken thighs tonight - have yet to decide what to do with them.

Had black pudding, half a tin of baked beans and a poached egg for dinner. Tea was toasted bread pobs, the rest of the beans and two poached eggs. Had a small bar of milk chocolate for pudding divided between dinner and tea just because I fancied a treat! Just before my bottom set broke I got a pack of home cured bacon from Brown's. Obviously fried bacon butties are a bit of a challenge at the moment so last night I cut the bacon into small chunks and left it overnight on the warm stove in the front room. I poured the fat and water off this morning and added a dash of Worcestershire sauce and a tin of tomatoes and put it back on the stove. I'll waken the stove later and the resulting brew of bacon and tomato will be a basis for something. Probably more beans and toasted pobs.

Corned beef hash a bit of home enough left for another meal so we have put it in the freezer. I also like garlic in moderation Wendy but hate it second hand. Used to sit next to an Italian girl at school who used to have garlic on toast for breakfast. A suppose runner for the garlic bread we know today. Eileen

I've just had a look at the bacon and tomato and it's up to speed and simmering so I have added a tin of beans, two chopped onions and an Oxo cube. Unfortunately I haven't any garlic handy so have put garlic powder in instead!

10:00. The bacon and beans has thickened up and is off the stove and cooling. It is now dual purpose, either butty filling or a sauce to have with rice or pasta. It's tasty and made with good stuff (and doesn't need a lot of chewing!) so we will survive the day.

I cooked a ham corner yesterday so we will have some of that with chips & mushy peas, the rest will make good sandwiches. I actually did the joint in the pressure cooker - I usually roast it - so we shall see what it is like.

Eileen...I used to sit next to an Italian lass at school too, and we were really good friends ( but she didn't half pong).
Every day she would take the lid off her lunchbox containing Salami...and we would all move over a few feet.
Everyone who eats garlic says "you can't smell it".
We used to have this patient who used garlic as a weight loss aid. He swore by it. We had to spray the entire clinic and prop the door open all afternoon after every visit.

As the stove was lit I made some tomato relish yesterday. Bit too much for the bowl I was putting it into to chill it in the fridge so I put it in the bacon and beans. Had it cold on a butty for dinner and hot on toasted bread pobs for tea. One helping left but it's butcher's day today.....

Last of the bacon, beans and tomato relish with toasted pobs for dinner. Butties made with relish, pressed beef and olives for tea with the last crust of the loaf spread with apricot conserve for pudding.

Frozen soup for dinner. Tomato relish, haslett and olives butty for tea. Pudding was one slice of bread with Apricot conserve on it. Then a banana and a pear.

...hoping to return to work tomorrow, Stanley . He may not last the entire day ( he gets quite exhausted ) but I think the best thing is to let him go and see how he fares. He can always come home if he starts to fade. ( luckily he has a job that is so accommodating really...I realise that not everyone has that luxury...)
He did have a call from his GP today ( who got his latest round of blood tests on line ) and he said "you really should be on Intravenous antibiotics for another six weeks".
Think they would have to chase him around the block to get another IV in him at this point! :laugh5:

As long as he doesn't do too much! I was driving down the 31 into Melbourne last night on the BBC2 programme on Australia.....
Had tomato, burger and egg butty for dinner and frozen stew for tea. Good lad, only a banana and a pear for pudding. Feeling thin though weight isn't altering much.
News item this morning about Elephant Garlic. The bulbs can be 6" across and are not strong, when cooked they are more sweet than tangy. Could be just the thing for Maz!
Another report was on what children's perceptions are about food. Some believe fish fingers are made from chicken, Pasta is meat and tomatoes grow underground. Isn't it sad that these kids are divorced from food origins. All olur fault of course and we should be ashamed.

My loaf wasn't ready in time so I got 4 cheese topped white baps from the Co-op. Had mashed smoked mackerel in tomato sauce on two of them for dinner and another two for tea, each with 3 fish fingers and a poached egg on top. I do love my butties! (And if made with soft bread and fillings very easy for my toothless jaw to deal with!)

The first (?) English strawberries made an appearance today - they are still £2 a punnet. It's only 300 grams though this year. They've been the same price for several years but I'm sure they used to have 400 grams - and even once were 1lb / 454 grams. Let's hope the Office of National statistics have noticed this ploy.
