Cliffs, yes. Chalk or sandstone, no. Although the reporting gets confused and often mentions limestone. It's actually a white marl which is a clayey lime-rich mudtsone. Kev was right that it's in Sicily but what is it called and why in the news?
Kev, I don't know anything about your comment of 'private' residents illegally living there.

That's it Kev. I know about it from a geology magazine and the need to protect it but I hadn't heard about the property claim. Now I understand your earlier post! I'll leave it for others to decide whether to keep on trying.

I guess Kev probably used a Google Image search because his linked news report has the same photo as I used. It's an unusual aerial shot and I chose it to try and avoid it being identified by Google! The typical images are like those shown below. Here is the Wikipedia page: LINK

I don't know what it is but it looks like one purpose build to the same design. Not a village, too tidy and no boat moorings for fishing. My guess would be an exclusive resort on a sub tropical island but that begs the question why no beach? If it's not that, how about a research facility or isolation hospital for infectious diseases. Come to think the latter looks like a possibility.

Thought pattern very good Stanley. It is a sub tropical island, but not a research facility or isolation hospital. Although it has loose connections with a hospital.

Richard Branson's Necker Island. Commonly known as Bonking Island. Where the criminally insane go to escape public scrutiny and do things that they aught not to be doing.

Wrong, but it does belong to someone famous. And there's a tale as to why he was allowed to build it there.
