If not a Cigar Cutter, it has to be grape scissors or a wick trimmer.
( :laugh5: then I am out...I’ve got nothing. Please don’t tell me it is a ceremonial circumcision implement!)

I'll have to allow wick trimmer and I suppose it could be used for oil lamp wicks but more usually on candles while they were still burning on the dinner table, hence the box for catching the cut off end.

Looks painful, The length would suggest something to be cut at a depth. The 'holding' end looks like it will accommodate a finger, push the slider down to open it up and pull it to close and snip off. Without getting deep into personal anatomy I would offer up tonsil removal.

You've got it P. It's a tonsil guillotine, one of many different designs. The most common was a simple wire loop used to tear them off as torn wounds heal quicker than cleanly cut. :biggrin2:

Well done for identifying the tonsil trimmer, Plaques, I wouldn't have known that.
I missed seeing the candle wick trimmer which is a pity because we have one, not as fancy, just a simple old brass one but with the trap to catch the bits. And we've used it too.

My dad had his out about the same age. At home in the back kitchen, doctor and attendant nurse, she put her hand over his mouth when he wanted to be sick from the ether, "we don't have any of that lad"!

You more or less have to have permanent tonsillitis before they will even contemplate taking them out nowadays.
