One for tree lovers - I like that American Oak, third from last photo. Also the lone hawthorn on the hill. The National trust has started a campaign to get more trees planted on its properties but flowering cherry trees to mimic Japan are being promoted. I'd rather they planted our own wild cherry, rowan, hawthorn, blackthorn, oak, alder etc.

Thanks Tize. The American Oak in Surrey is amazing. I’d love to hug the bits that I could touch.
And to lie on the ground looking up to the canopy of the Tasmanian trees would be lovely too.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

The American Oak would be beautiful in autumn - its leaves turn bright red.

Collecting and pressing tree leaves would be a good lockdown project!

John Clayton and the farmer at the thorn at the head of Hayn Slack. Someone thought this was a special tree, they walled round it.

My wife was cremated 1 yr ago, we have 4 daughters who each had a share of their mothers ashes that have been dispersed as follows, , under a oak sapling in Co. Meath, under a rose bush in Co. Cavan,, spread in a graveyard Co. Galway, & spread in a nearby graveyard, she expressed the wish not to be buried ! " married to a Yorkshire man IIlkley Moor , worms etc. ", my wishes are similar, cremation and a tree or bush in the hole with me.

Similar to our Dan. He is scattered with both sets of grandparents. He has his own stone in Stratford and in Gill Churchyard. He is at the top of Weets and on the summit of Penyghent. We have a What Three Words reference for him on Penyghent which is ///pizza.joints/astounded.

What has got my attention is the second letter in two days addresses to 'J K Twist' at my address. I have returned both to sender marked 'not known at this address'. I'll be glad when they stop!

On our walk today we saw these men who seemed to be lifting BT covers and feeding the yellow cable down. Would it simply be replacement cable?

They certainly are! Worked Sunday as well did some of them.
Should have mentioned, the letters are from HMRC. I hope someone hasn't been using my address.

Fee-fi-fo-fum, we were up our beanstalk! Or was it from my drone? Well, neither, just a photo taken quickly from a bedroom window before they disappeared!

Ian, thanks for that information. We wondered whether it might be fibre, but I suppose we won't see any increase in speed until the day comes when they put a fibre line line from the hole in the pavement to our house. I wonder how they do that - does it mean digging up the front garden?

They are also deploying fibre pole to pole so the only copper will be the final link to the property. You could replace that link also with an overhead run same as they are using pole to pole I suppose. All fibre does not need to be underground.

There are no poles here, the estate was built in the 1970s, and I assume the line coming in to the house must have come up through the concrete floor from underground when the house was built. The main box is on the hallway wall and there is no cable coming in to it on the outside of the wall or the other side in the understairs cupboard.

I which case you are all set up for full fibre to premises. Open Reach would just use the same ducting I reckon. Winner. :extrawink:

When I go out this afternoon I will take a picture of the new junction boxes they are putting on the poles.

I smile when I read about fibre to premises. I had this fitted at my previous house free of charge by NTL (National Transcommunication Ltd) on a speculative basis, and offering mainly more TV I think. The interweb was in its infancy, though I recall an NTL email address. It must have been over twenty years ago, as I was working, and got them to very kindly change their work plan so I could sleep after coming off nights. They cabled the whole village - to the front door - population 4,400 plus. I can now find no reference at all to NTL on Google. I never subscribed.

NTL and the NTLWorld email addresses are now Virgin Media. I had it when I lived 'darn sarf', that would have been around 20 years ago and was sold as 'cable TV' I don't remember there being any mention of tinterweb. I had dial up through my BT phone line :-)

I got mine too. Out of character, but I've completed it immediately. Very simple - the only questions that might have irritated me were voluntary - so I ignored them .

***************************************************************************************

PS - I was going to say it was for cable TV only, but the NTL world email address made me think I'd got the interweb too. I remember having a NTL landline number, and in fact had two land line numbers for quite a while. (one of them must have been free :laugh5: )
