Marley. Is that the same Marley as the ghost in Christmas Carols. Perhaps the pup called 'Summer' should change its name to Scrooge. :laugh5:

If you said that to the two little daughters they'd probably eat you for breakfast! :laugh5:

Latest on the granddaughter clock's foibles, it only 'bongs' once for 2 o'clock It's something I can forgive as it's 100 years old.
Its weirdness fits in well here, chiming 4 minutes early and a missing 'bong', loving it 🤣

Tesco have done it again. New advert with zero diversity - unless you count a Scottish accent, and coating the lamb with a spice mixture.

It's quite unnerving. :laugh5:

The wind and very heavy rain. Carpet slipper day!
Later, it's funny how things pop into your mind. I happened to see a trail for an interview with a young lady who was relating how difficult it was to have a conversation with middle aged financial men on the subject of funding for a company to market brassieres. My first thought was that it wouldn't bother me, I have always taken a keen interest in the complicated matter of bra sizes, there are so many factors. This train of thought took me to Howard Hughes designing a brassiere for Jane Russell when she was starring in his production of the Outlaw.
That thought reminded me of the first time I had come across this story in The Carpetbaggers by Harold Robbins. It's a long time since I read that book so that took me to Bookfinder. You've guessed it, I bought a copy and it's on its way to me.
The moral of this story is beware of random thoughts, they can so often lead to a bookseller!

The BBC Headline said Moat Drained in Error

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-56345521
The reality is that it was not completely emptied, and by its location will fill up, but the story is interesting anyway.

The fact that it's still raining and we have even stronger wind!

I liked the Facebook comment about the empty moat at the the Bishop's Palace in Wells being due to the Bishop having emptied it with his "remoat control".

What caught my attention today was the amount you have to pay in rates. My house was in Band E in Wallasey and that would now cost me £2433.74 (2021). In Barlick it would be £2592.80. I hope you're all on better wages than I was when I worked at Windle and Bowker for a farthing a minute! :biggrin2:

It's the cost of replacing those guard rails twice a year....
Serious tarmac laying was happening in the Town Square, they'd actually cut the old surface out and were relaying it! But only 3" thick......

I would be taking a wider view if I was you....
We all discuss unborn children...will it have Grandad’s big ears...will it have Aunt Mildred’s huge nose...will it have it’s Dad’s flat feet. I honestly don’t think discussing family attributes is any different to discussing skin colour. Another part of normal thoughts when dreaming what a brand new baby would look like. I always wanted my unborn child to have brown eyes, like his Daddy. I was delighted when he did, as I thought my blue eyes would have been the stronger gene.
You get what you get!

I have an Asian friend who had 4 kids to an Australian husband. I remember her giggling when she told me that their first child was born “quite white”, but as the births went on their future children were born with darker and darker skin and more Asian looking. They were both delighted and confused as to the reason... :laugh5:

Conveniently forgetting that Edward V111 and George the V1 plus many more of the royal family had leanings towards Hitler prior to WW2 . George V1 was active in barring the Jews from entering Palestine and we all know what the outcome of that was.

I had another friend who had twins. One was a budding intellectual, the other cut the legs off the lounge chairs and took the vacuum cleaner apart. The latter also painted his baby sister blue with house paint he found access to as she sat in the walker chair.

That's the lady....... Thanks David.
She has a very rosy view of the Royal Family.....
It reminds me of the time I was giving my Carleton students an al fresco lecture on the origins of the Cavendish, the origins of their wealth and their seats at Chatsworth and Bolton Abbey in a car park near Chatsworth. I detailed the way they treated their tenants and workers and was attacked half way through by two old ladies who had been listening and disagreed violently with my account. A similar syndrome I fear. Something to do with deference.

Reminds me of Brendan Behan's observation -

"The Guiness family have been very good to the people of Dublin - but then again, the people of Dublin have been very good to the Guinness family"
