Im surprised that the limit was as high as 5' 3". I'd imagined that about 5' 6" was an average sort of height at the time, so I'd have expected bantams to be 5ft or so. I note that jockeys still work to a weight standard that is way out of date. I think it has been modified to cater for larger people now, but still many can't do 8 stone nowadays.

I heard Rory Stewart on radio a few days ago. He's a 'good turn' in the media, but there aren't too many openings for staunch remainers these days. His moment may come again. Didn't he stand against Boris for the leadership?

Yes David and it was catching a clip of that that reminded me of him. The old HIGNFY compilations on Youtube are a condensed version of social history. Watching them I am continually asking the question, 'Where are they now?'

This website that someone shared in Facebook, it lists names and addresses of those killed in WW1. I'm sure the historians on here are already aware of it but I found it fascinating

It has some inacuracies though which will be confusing for anyone that is not fully aware of the districts. The base map is not correct for Barlick it has the bottom of York Street as Park Road and one of the Salterforth casualties from Park View Terrace shown on our street. A huge task to compile it no doubt and probably left to an matching algorithm that didn't get it quite right. Better than the resource you don't have though. :extrawink:

The film about the viaduct blew away 20 minutes of the morning! Nice to see Ribblehead has had work done on it but when you think about it, Stockport has them all beat for size.

This is what we were up to yesterday. Susan and I had a bus trip out to Skipton to look at the revamped museum. (We had lunch and a look at the market as well....)
The museum is a vast improvement and seems to be better staffed than it used to be. A lot of thought has gone into it and it is all clean and new. Just one thought for the curators, old people like me like to be able to sit down and have a breather after a while. The only chairs I saw were in the exhibition space upstairs.....
Much better temperature for walking round. Lots of people in the town.

Sky Broadband finally refunded the payment they took for July (despite the contract ending at the end of June). I have now cancelled the direct debit in case they try taking it back :laugh5:

The bikes have to be available commercially to comply with Olympic rules. Just a mere £24,000 if you want one. :extrawink:

I certainly have and, if you like crime novels, I'd highly recommend them. I bought all 10 for my Kindle on an offer.
