The view you show there Kev is the options you see with your Moderator Permissions.

Nevertheless, ordinary Registered users should be able to delete their posts just using the cross next to the edit icon. It's a forum permission so applied to all users regardless of their status.

Moderators and Admins of course have elevated permissions which allow warnings to be given and other advanced controls over posts.

Back to the topic- unfortunately Captain Sir Tom Moore has died. He was a remarkable man.
part of a statement from his family

"We are so grateful that we were with him during the last hours of his life; Hannah, Benjie and Georgia by his bedside and Lucy on FaceTime. We spent hours chatting to him, reminiscing about our childhood and our wonderful mother. We shared laughter and tears together."

I read someone saying that Boris could at least have tidied his hair before doing his `video tribute' to Captain Tom.

I watched it - I particularly noted that he did tidy it. That was his 'hair brushed' look. It's just not very photogenic.

Lord Vestey has died.

Not mentioned but I read that his nick name was 'Spam'. Eton and The Guards. Owned the Dewhurst butchers chain - and half of Argentina. (I made that up) . Paid £10 tax on their £2.3 million profits.

We shall not see his like again.

At one time the family were never out of the news. 'The Argentine shops' were on every high street. If I remember rightly he was heavily into polo?

I think he would be top of a list of 'people least likely to go vegan'.

I'm waiting for the Brazilian sirloins which were once available in bags of five, frozen, at Tesco to return. Not holding my breath though.

I remember a branch of 'Argenta' in Ancoats on Oldham Road in ,which I passed on the bus on my way to school. Read all about it here Butchers

I remember it being used as a mildly snobbish put down - "she gets her beef from the Argenta"

I was a fan of those sirloins too David. Grass fed and very tender. They can bring them back any time they want for me but I suppose that's the wrong attitude now. We should all be buying British meat!!

My friend Alan Broadhurst and his wife Angela in 2002 when they ran the Old Library at Arisaig. Alan was a naval diver and then on saturation diving in the North Sea. In the compression chamber between dives he read cookery books and became a very competent chef.
He has been in an Alzheimer coma for the last few years and died on the first of February. Sad but probably a release. I shall miss him. Angela will miss him but her life will be easier....

I always enjoyed any playing of Supremes music and I wasn't necessarily a natural fan. It was just good music!

This isn't an obituary for a specific person but it's in memory of many men who died...

It is why we have the Kohima Epitaph at the end of each annual Remembrance Sunday service and proceedings:

"When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today."

Beat me to it Bodger. No mention in the main media that I've seen. Just a single line in the weekly summary in the Spectator which is a shame. He deserved more. I used to go to his Christmas Concerts in the nineties, at St Ives - sponsored by the local Vauxhall dealer - mainly to see Lonnie Donegan I must confess. Still got the autographed racecard somewhere.

He had a bit of a stutter on the stage . Here's plenty to go at- in his prime. . Chris Barber RIP
