See this BBC report on the development on vaccines. I don't particularly understand the relevant advantages of the different vaccines or whether the numbers quoted are an option to purchase or whether we have made a down payment already. Vaccines

The government has now purchased experimental coronavirus vaccines that have been developed using four different scientific approaches:

Adenovirus vaccines: 100 million doses Oxford University/AstraZeneca; 30 million doses Janssen
mRNA vaccines: 30 million doses BioNTech/Pfizer
Inactivated whole virus vaccines: 60 million doses Valneva
Protein adjuvant vaccines: 60 million doses GSK/Sanofi; 60 million doses Novavax

It takes Britain's potential stockpile to a total of 340 million doses - one of the biggest in the world.

I am just getting my head down and surviving. So far so good!
As for misinformation, nothing changes. Go back and read Charles Webster on the Inter War bending of statistics.

He's been on national news a few times, I saw one interview from Nelson and one from his house. These were on the BBC, Channel 4 had him on too...

OK, I've got the message, you've seen David Whipp on TV, I know how much it excites you all but...why is he on TV? The most recent news item I can find on Google for him is this: LINK where it says `Pendle Council’s deputy leader David Whipp believes an elected mayor “would be unaccountable to residents in Pendle, with a combined authority hoovering up power away from local residents”.'

We've heard about Russia's vaccine, now this. I like the pic of him riding the bear!...

He's been campaigning for compensation to be paid to people, having to isolate, if identified by a track and trace system. People are reluctant to identify contacts as some will be unable to earn any money if isolated.

Local politics again. There is a topic for that.

Why is an answer to a question 'why is he on TV' local politics? If I'd put the answer on the politics thread there would be no context...

He is a former regular contributor to this site, and he was on national news in connection with the current very high rate of Covid 19 infection in Pendle, which includes Barnoldswick. I'd say that makes this thread appropriate? Other opinions are of course welcome here.

It's very hard to separate politics from Covid here at the moment Maz. So many people are being affected by bad decisions and downright obfuscation from the government. Give us a bit of leeway! Be thankful nobody has posted about the virus and exam results, at the moment that's top of the list in both politics and Covid news.
[But the snooker is good....]

Maz, they all got excited because their local Barlick chap David Whipp was on TV but none of their posts told me why. I assumed it must be something to do with covid in the Barlick area but the only recent news I could find on google for Mr Whipp was the link that I posted and that was political rather than virus. That's why I posted it - I was trying to find out if there was something else linked to the virus problem.

I think Tripps summed it up quite well. I will add that he is deputy leader of the Borough Council and enjoys the media. He was pointing out the disparity of infection rates throughout the borough and questioning whether it was correct locking the whole area down when there is little infection in West Craven.

See THIS news about the latest change in Covid testing.
"John Ashton, a former regional director of public health in north-west England, said PHE had had "a bad pandemic" but criticised the government's reported plans to scrap the organisation. He told the BBC News Channel: "You don't deal with the problem of an over-centralised, dysfunctional organisation by creating another over-centralised organisation which is what is being proposed. "You don't change horses mid-stream - this pandemic has still got a long way to run," he said, adding that PHE should be strengthened rather than ditched.
