I often think that missing some key fact the first time round and picking it up on re-reading is the reason why some books are better the second time round. The better the writing the more times you can go back to it. None of us has perfect comprehension.

I struggled with it, and didn't want to persevere.

How is the book going Wendy? I am just reading Maria von Trapp's memoirs. Then I am looking for another novel. I read a Phillipa Gregory novel over Christmas. I like her books, they stimulate me to do some history research.

I haven't found much time to read recently Sue, but I'm about two thirds through and still enjoying it. Happy for you to choose the next read.

What about The Girl in the Bunker by Tracey S Rosenberg. I have already bought this book as it was recommended to me. It's about the final days of the Nazis regime written through the eyes of a young girl in her diary

That sounds like a challenge. OK, I will see if I can get it from the library when I go in this morning.

I have looked on Lancashire Libraries Catalogue and it is not there?? Strange, they always seem to have one at least of pretty much everything.

You are right Gloria, Christine Bradley in Colne Library has just had a search for me and there is nothing there at all. It is available to download from Amazon for less than £3 so I will just do that.

Finished it. It was hard going and rather traumatic, especially the ending. I didn't like it, I think because of what it was about. It all became very real through the eyes of a child

I finally finished Where the River Ends last night. Don't think I'll even try the next one Sue, I need some light relief!

I have started reading "Started Early, Took My Dog" by Kate Atkinson. I heard about her on radio Lancashire, one of her books is a local play at the moment, and whoever was speaking was giving really good reports on her writing, so I thought I would give her a go. The only book of hers in the library was this, and a good read it is.
Well worth getting so far, I am about a third through and haven't figured it out yet. Various characters who I have no doubt will link together.

Oh good, I like it when I find a new author who has lots of good books---- a whole new seam of reading, brilliant.

Does anyone else fancy reading it?

Yes, good idea, I need something to read. I've ordered it from Amazon (only £3.86) so it should be here in a few days.
