Nice to see the Crumblies getting out and about. Not my cup of tea at all but then I'm even older than you are! Valley Gardens is my limit these days.....

We managed to get our crumbling selves to The Lowry in Salford last night to see Nils Lofgren, so glad we made the effort as he was brilliant as usual. Nils played with Neil Young back in the early years and has been a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band for over 30 years but when he isn't doing stadium tours with Bruce he plays his own stuff in smaller venues like the Lowry....which is very nice for us crumblies.
I found this CLIP on Youtube, filmed earlier on the tour.

It was Maz, and it is good for me to get out....I tend to avoid motorway trips if at all possible and can quickly develop anxieties about travelling. Booking these expensive tickets well in advance means I just have to get over it and get going!!
Nothing booked for a while now, so I can breathe a sigh of relief. Our next outing is just to Grassington Festival in the summer to see Bellowhead, and down to Colne Muni to see Rich Hall....neither of which involve much travelling!

I don't know about crumblies! I admire these ageing rockers sallying forth in the depths of winter to far flung places like Salford.... They should be in leathers though and on a big Harley....

Shame on you Stanley, any ageing British rocker wouldn't be seen dead on a Harley, most are ridden by doctors, stockbrokers and solicitors, over rated, overpriced and another American import on a par with the grey squirrel. Had a similar effect on the native species as well.

If you feel that you must ride round on agricultural equipment buy a tractor.

I've done that as well. Best road tractor I ever used was a Paraffin David Brown Cropmaster.... It would be a good vintage machine now. High geared, it would do over twenty miles an hour. Lionel used to send me off for spare parts on it.....

I haven't been to St Annes...

Thought I had a meeting at County Hall this afternoon, but found it was on the coast... With weather and road conditions, thought the 100 mile round trip should be dispensed with.

Probably best, a wagon rolled over on the M65, just past jct 7 westbound at 2pm. I was on my way home from the office, fortunately eastbound. There'll be chaos there now. It's completely closed west and one lane east.

Glad you got back Kev. I remember taking four hours to get home from Rochdale one day when I was at REW.... I was OK, it was the other buggers, no idea of snow driving.

An interesting day at a Britain in Bloom finalist's seminar in Sheffield with Lesley (a fellow 'bloomer').

We travelled by train from Skipton and had a speedy journey down, with good views of the sunrise south of Leeds. The venue was an entertaining 10 minute walk from the station, with plenty of ice crunching underfoot.

Met quite a few of the other 70 or so finalists and some of the judges during four sessions discussing the details of various aspects of the national event. Those attending became aware of Barlick's entrance onto the national stage...

RHS staff appeared quite impressed that Barnoldswick is in the national finals only four years after the town's first entry.

A day well spent!

Indeed. Any sign of Moonface? Must have been a good photo opportunity.....

On my wanderings today I stopped at my local duck pond and watched a Pelican gliding on the water and feeding for about 20mins. It was huge and it was lovely to watch it move so elegantly. It took off very silently and flew around in circles for a few minutes before heading off. I felt quite privileged.

Stanley, surprisingly absent! (Er, or not a surprise at all...).

No sign of him popping in for some of my soup at the bloom kitchen that I spent all day on today, either...

Perhaps he was getting snapped with some disadvantaged children or old people..... That would trump Britain in Bloom.

Pine Lake near Carnforth with our two Granddaughters since Monday. Log cabin next to the lake, showers and rain most days but plenty to do around the area. We did breakfast at the cabin and generally dined out during the day and then back to the clubhouse on site in the evenings for dinner and then the entertainment put on for kids, disco with games etc, got roped in for musical chairs with the adults on all fours being the chairs! Also got picked as Harry Potter, one of four characters that the kids had to run to when the music stopped, a hidden chooser picked one of the characters at random and all the kids with that character were knocked out. Last one left after removing an odd character each round won the prize. Chocolate bunny's as prizes in the kids game and on the first night I managed to win £28.00 in the single round of bingo played later on for the adults.

We looked at taking them to the YHA somewhere but the costings were pretty much the same for our own cabin and no shared kitchen.

We went up to Kendal after checking out today for a look round and lunch, (and a bit of shopping), then home down the A65 in the glorious sunshine we have had all day. All in all, a nice few days away.

Just spent 6 weeks traveling up the south coast of New South Wales in our caravan. Most of the camps were right on the beach. The weather was low 20's for most of the time with excellent fishing.

We got home this afternoon and it's freezing and wet. I think I will start planning the next trip to the warmer weather.

That sounds like a good trip Liz. I like that coast but haven't been there for 40 years.... Time flies! (I remember getting my feet badly sunburned fishing on the beach. I think it was because the sea and sand were washing my feet perfectly clean. Walking was interesting for a few days!)

Bolton Abbey at the weekend. We were up in Barlick and so popped over. Busy given the weather, but there’s pleny of space on the estate to escape. As nice at it ever was (20 years since I’ve been). I wish I hadn’t gone over the stepping stones though as they’re not a straightforward at my age; I had a right wobble on at one stage.

We then went to The Barlick Tap for a few pints when we got back. An excellent example of the burgeoning ‘micropub’ scene I thought. Bustling and busy with a jolly crowd.

I'm glad to hear that re[port Richard. I'm all in favour of small imaginative enterprises and wish them well. If I was affluent enough and still in my beer phase I would be in there.....

Just got back from a month in Canada and Alaska. The most magnificent scenery ever. We saw bears, moose and elk in the wild - sensational.
