Council Tax is now payable over 12 equal monthly payments rather than the 10 of previous years

I note that our bureaurcrats in Nelson expect those on Housing Benefit to pay 10 payments from money that they won't yet have been paid and aren't directly offered this route on the paperwork. There is no offer here to deduct the money at source, thereby preventing the 'merry-go-round' of money for no apparent reason. A truly incisive piece of bureaucracy that creates work for no apparent reason

The sports correspondent on Radio 4's Today programme this morning gave out his racing tips then said "You'll have to decide whether to risk your £1 on the racing tips or to buy Cyprus".

Ouch! Cyprus is being asked to part fund it's own bail out through an imposed tax of almost 33% of its National Output, equivalent to a one off imposition of £500 billion on the UK

Finalised my order with Pluggy for the latest Flying Machine, the type III. No pockets in a shroud and it's an injection of cash into the local economy! (I do like efficient machines....)

I have a customer for the FMII at a reasonable price and it's going to a local home.
What grabbed me this morning is the snow, I have sympathy for anyone driving in it. Lots to be said for retirement!

I always try to think about the people who have to be out there keeping the services going. I've done my share but I haven't forgotten, especially that bad one we had, was it 1967? I was on the tramp right through it and it was miserable.

Nolic, all the grit's on Bracewell Lane, 3 gritters in 15 mins at one point last night. But then it is now the chosen (Satnav Ok'd) fast route from the Ribble Valley to near E, Lancs, No Police, No Camera's, no speed control strips or Humps and no weight restriction, just ease off a bit on Essex St! Regardless of the conditions this morning there were still cars passing here at 40+MPH with peephole in windscreen and side windows completely obscured!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy. Sounds as though the lads have made some decisions, it would be nice if they let us know.....
What struck me was how nice the weather is for the time of year. Good job most people don't have to go out today but spare a thought for those who have to be out there.
After our walk at 06:50. Main road through Barlick, Gisburn Road and Skipton Road are ploughed and salted but no sign on any other routes. High Lane is blocked perhaps. No salt in Town Centre.

Not today, but last nights TV. First the weather reports and forecasts: "There could be up to 25 centimetres of snow, that's a foot"! is it now? and then there's the reporter in a "Blizzard" a town is clearly visible at about three quarters of a mile distant, in a true Blizzard you would have been lucky to see the reporter! And then came "Gardeners World" with "and here is a list of the things you can do in your garden this weekend! I know where our garden is, and that's it,end of!! We were just saying on Thursday how well the snowdrops have done this year, right now, you would not know they were there, or the crocus's, or the emerging bluebells.

There was a jackknifed wagon between Thornton and Earby, on the A56. Don't know if they've cleared it yet. Obvious diversion would be through Barlick but there doesn't appear to be an increase in traffic. People must be staying away.

The thing that struck me was the number of interviewees on snow reports who said they'd never seen anything like this and thought they must have bad memories. Then I did a reality check and recognised that they are mostly too young to remember 1947 and 1963 (I looked it up!). Just looked at the five day forecast and there is no end in sight, we may not get any more snow but no sign of the frost easing. Clocks change to BST on March 31st. I hope we have warmed up a bit by then!

Main conurbation of Manchester surrounded by snow, but yet again none in the centre it's as if we have a protective umberella, my borders love snow but will need a car ride to get in it.

Last night actually- the Swing Commanders session down at Rolls. Local Rotary Club took over the organising this year and ran it in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. Excellent set from the band as usual along with Company B playing the dance records before and between band sessions. The Commanders were going down to Newark after they finished at Rolls last night, (oh to be a band on the road), they have a commitment for a party tonight!

Not as many dancers in the throngs of the Rotarians so no chance of bumping into anyone on the dance floor. Good job really it was our first night out for a long time and first foray back into swing dancing for the best part of nine months. Certainly showed and am feeling the after effects of underused muscles this morning. I was complimented four times on my "Chat Noir" tie though by the ladies I danced with.
