Helping hubby to try and sort out our water supply, (again). A massive leak somewhere in the system and we are losing it almost as fast as it is pumped up to the top storage tank from the spring. He drained the tank yesterday and cleared out all the muck that had gathered since it was installed in 1975. There are feed pipes going out to three properties...one of them must be leaking somewhere, but there are no clues on the ground. Any dowsers out there? Anyone any tips on finding leaks in underground plastic pipe please?

Wendy, cut supply to each pipe in turn and see which cures the loss in the tank

That's exactly what we did yesterday Stanley, and with draining the tank down we were able to discover which pipe fed which property. Col managed to get some elbow fittings for the old pipes, so he could turn them in and out of a small "fill" of water. It was an interesting result. Our neighbours above, with the working farm, always say that they don't use their share of the supply...they have other sources of water, though they pay their share of any maintenance and repairs. The lack of supply made them realise that they were actually using it in one of the sheds. The rare combination of warm, dry conditions when the cattle are still inside meant the water supply was seriously challenged. We were losing over a 1000litres in a few hours. We don't think there is a leak after all. Have yet to discuss it with the neighbour, who is up to is ears in lambing and doesn't need any more problems at the moment!

Dad wanted to be interred in his grandmas grave , Mums ashes are going with him. It has taken a few weeks to track down the grave papers, but my cousin in Tasmania found them,so we can go ahead now

Its abit cool this morning, but my seeds are coming up in the greenhouse and my butternut squash in the seed germinator

Wendy, there's an old saying that good fencing makes good neighbours. In your case the ultimate cure is to put a meter in each outflow pipe from the tank and split the costs on usage. The modern meters aren't that expensive and they would give you all peace of mind.
I am feeling quite guilty about my shed. I am getting mails asking if I am poorly! Must get my mojo going again!

.........looking forward to a meal out tonight at a Turkish 'ocakbasi' restaurant that opened 2mins walk away about 12 months ago, and which we haven't tried yet. It's getting rave reviews. An 'ocakbasi' restaurant is a grill house essentially, with importantly the grill being over proper charcoal not some fake, gas job. Open cooking area inside and comes with a huge extraction system, obviously.

Tomorrow, I'll be having a bet on the National

Just had a casual look at the runners. The standout for site members would appear to be the Irish horse "TREACLE". Jockey's colours - all black - they say he's a bit of a dark horse.
