Airedale are moving commendably quickly! I have my pre-op examination on Friday and the operation to cut the little bugger out is on Tuesday 30 October so I shall be AWOL for a couple of days as it isn't a day procedure.

You'll soon be back in the shed.

Official news from Ian's wife, the tumour was nothing sinister just a lump...

Great news. :good:
But won't Ian's head be like Tony Hancock's empty arm in the blood donor sketch? Quick, shine a light through his ears! :extrawink:

All the very best wishes, Ian.

Col was in overnight when he had his op because it was done under a general anaesthetic and his was an afternoon operation. He couldn't pee afterwards and came out the next day with a catheter fitted. He went back the following week for the results of the biopsy and to get the catheter removed. His was a small, "low grade" tumour and it's quite likely yours will be the same. They flush out the bladder with a one off dose of chemo and you will have to return for regular check ups. As Maz mentioned earlier, in some people they reoccur on a regular basis but so far so good with Col.

Thanks Wendy. that's useful information and welcome. My mate Philip Lawson is looking after Jack tomorrow afternoon and Susan is taking me. She has sorted transport out for Tuesday as well. I have to be there for 07;00 on Tuesday and I asked the admissions nurse what she could tell me and she said I should reckon on an overnight stay. We'll see. Everyone is looking after me including the hospital. Wonderful!

I'm not sure what the distance is between your hospital and home...but I always pack a wide necked bottle in the car for hubby. We have a 2 hour drive and there is a bit of bladder uncertainty after leaving hospital, which can persist a couple of days.
It's more for peace of mind than anything else...

About 30 minutes Maz and I think I'll be all right because they won't let me out after the operation unless I am peeing normally. Good and thoughtful suggestion though, thanks.

They will let you out once you are peeing, but they won't wait until you are peeing "normally". :biggrin2: (you will see!). Trust me, it takes a couple of days my friend. We are lucky we have a toilet on both floors of our home...( and let's just say there could be a bit more laundry)
A bit more advice...get down to the chemist in the next few days and buy a box of URAL sachets. They will start you off on those after your procedure, but you will need them when you get home.

My hubby fell off a step stool about an hour ago. I heard the crash, but didn't even know he was up the step stool, so I'm a bit cross with him. He is ok, but has a nasty blue egg on his hip and is feeling a bit stiff and sore. Silly old moo!

Just googled URAL sachets to find out what they are and they aren't available here. A Boots brand of granules for treating cystitis pops up but it is not recommended for men or diabetics!

My pre-op was fine and very thorough. No swabs for MRSA, ordinary cardio with sticky pads, absolutely no problems on any front. They say that for the mileage I am in remarkable condition. Lots of blood taken for various tests, I forget what they are. Good chance I shall be given the choice of a spinal block which I will take if offered. I will definitely be in for one night as they will be constantly irrigating my bladder. If I do well and am peeing normally I'll be out the next day. Because I was so good they are going to do me as early as possible which is good, more recovery time. My normal eating regime fits perfectly with their fasting requirements so that's a bonus.
