It's difficult to make a comparison without knowing. It'll be on your bill.
My last elec bill was £76 and gas was £10.
July was £61 and £10

Our very cheap fix with Octopus has finally ended and from today our rates are:
Electricity:
Unit price: 27.18p per kWh
Standing charge: 56.64p per day

Gas:
Unit price: 7.10p per kWh
Standing charge: 27.47p per day

That was what I wanted Kev. So I'm paying a touch more than you for both of you. That figures.... It's the shed penalty!

With the exception of the CH boiler everything else is electric, the £10 gas is mostly the standing charge.

I took a gamble by fixing mine for 12 months. There is the possibility, that once the October price cap kicks in, I may be paying slightly above but I suspect it'll go up again in January.

...and again, same here! Our previous fix did well for us and we ended up with very cheap energy as prices rocketed.

I had a good fix and it served me well until it ended in April I think. I haven't got enough confidence to fix the way things are..... I shall just hang in there and pay the bills!

Finland are investigating damage to their gas pipeline to Estonia after a sudden drop in pressure. Speculation is that it's sabotage, in response to Finland joining NATO, which has pushed up European gas prices by 13.5%.

Yes, after an Autumnal let off I think we are now into the heating season. The thermostat rules and it's a nice temperature here in the kitchen and the shed. I shall not be cutting back to save money, at my age that's definitely a false economy!

We are getting a new, external oil boiler for our central heating on Monday. The Stanley range cooker/ ch boiler has done a great job for the last 24 years but with new regulations threatened Col thought we should take the plunge and upgrade to a new boiler which will, if necessary, convert to running on HVO.
The Stanley remains as an occasional cooker and focal point in the kitchen but Col has already been doing preparatory plumbing so it's central heating function has gone already. Trust the weather to be bitterly cold whilst we have no heating!
I was, of course, meant to be away whilst the work was going on but here I am, trying not to ask annoying questions or get stressed about how it's all going to work.

Does it need to be specifically processed or can you use any veg oil?

No Kev, apparently a very pure synthetic paraffin produced by 'hydrotreating' vegetable oils. Its not available in enough quantities yet to make it a viable alternative for domestic heating but it is seen as a future solution for those of us who rely on oil.

Mine is hidden away in a drawer set to 0 degrees. - target is at least November 1st.
