I wonder why Richard! Perhaps you looked too intelligent....
I shall be immersed in Spain with Paul Preston. I think tomorrow I shall go to the steaming at Bancroft. I noted the piece in BET this week about the gathering of the old stalwarts of the Trust. I wonder whether they realise their first chairman and former Trustee is still alive.... Does it matter? As a friend of mine in Rochdale said about a similar event at Ellenroad "Yesterday's Men Stanley!" I can live with it......

Went to Bancroft and came under attack from a man who was something to do with Ellenroad. According to him I was the reason why the Whitelees engine is "2" out of true". Funny how you can be flavour of the month twenty years ago and the villain of the piece today. The ironic thing is that they are assuming that the engine itself is perfect. They may get a surprise when they try to 'put it right'. I was surprised by how much this accusation upset me. Ah well, Yesterday's Men'! (They've run it perfectly well for 20 years.....)

Sue. I commiserate. I have a funeral next Thursday, not family, a close friend. Life is a terminal disease..... All we can do is remember the good bits.
Today is shed and F1 practice.... small things amuse small minds?

Stanley it was alovely day, what a strange thing to say. They were buried under an old oak tree in a very old wooded area of Byrnley cemetery, reunited with a lost family that I refound. The sky was blue, there were bluebells out, the sun was shining. They would have loved where they are. Afterwards a very happy family lunch sharing photographs and memories.
RIP Mum and Dad. Miss you, love you

Taking it easy today, I know my limitations and yesterday, while rewarding in some aspects, was stressful. Shopping, posting Stanley's View and reading the BET. That'll do for a start!

Painting the inside of Clarion House. Scaffolding is up and we have been asked to turn up with brushes. Sally is making new curtains for the place. A spruce up in time for our centenary in August.

We have been setting up the History Society's "Earby in the 1950's" exhibition ready for tomorrow's event in the New Road Community Centre. Earby's WW2 veterans are being presented with the "Freedom of Earby". I think Vera Cocker has gathered 23 veterans for the occasion and the Earby Brass Band will be playing.

Heaving a sigh of relief. I heard Paul Lewis reporting yesterday on the number of people who have been summarily fined by the NHS for having a free eye test more often than every two years. I checked on the NHS site this morning and I qualify on two counts, my diabetes and the fact that my father had it. I always 'knew' this but it was reassuring to check and find out that I had it right!

How did they manage to get a free test . When I was referred by my GP within a two year period I still had to pay, and I had to sign to say that it was within the two year period. I was shocked to have tp pay as I had been referred for health reasons.
