I think I've mentioned before that my Cat is a good watch-cat and reacts every time another cat comes into the front or back garden looking for birds. We have 3 new cats frequenting our gardens at the moment (all with a bell attached), at first they drove me nuts because my cat would react very vocally, I think partly because I would too, but I have noticed that if I appear laid-back my cat isn't that bothered about the other cats. She still watches them but she doesn't attack them thru the window or open security/flyscreen door as often as she used to. Or maybe my cat is just getting older, she is 8 1/2yrs old now.

We have gone mad and introduced another dog into the family. He is a big, bouncing, sweet natured boy called Bruce, rescued from the pound by Pendle Dogs in Need. Probably a labrador/staffie cross, he was judged to be about 7 years old but we think he is younger! He is very well trained indoors but has no idea how to behave on a lead and I couldn't hold him the first time we tried him out. A few walks later and he is trying really hard to steady himself. He has probably been kept in a yard and not walked...his back leg muscles are quite weak.
He is friendly towards vets, cats, hens and ponies and ignores sheep....perfect for us.
Bertie isn't delighted about this of course and being a grumpy old man we are having to manage the situation carefully to avoid spats...but Bruce has quickly learnt when to keep out of the way.

You've got two horses and two dogs... What's next, a replica Colin? Tell him I say he should keep an eye on you......

What you can't see from that photo Tripps is that the top is rotten and only covers two thirds of the table. It is waiting for offcuts from some lovely pine planks that Col is going to make into doors....eventually.

Don't forget the two cats Stanley. One Colin is more than enough thank you!

The new addition to the family is settling in nicely.....



Bertie is just tolerating the upstart but he's not very impressed.



Meanwhile the ponies enjoy the morning sun....



....and (Look away now Maz!!!) Tinky 2 the three legged cat enjoys the freshly bleached kitchen table.

Happy families..... I have no problems with a cat on the table... Everything looks to be thriving and ready for a good summer.... Nice!

Typical of my cat too ( a black female , and a real Goddess) but she know's not to be on my kitchen benches if there is food being prepared. She loves my spot in the lounge and tries all sorts of things to get me up just so she can claim it, when she talks to me ( to get me to move) I know she is really saying "'Mine, mine mine!"

She can't resist the smell of bleach Cathy, and rolls ecstatically on any surface I use it on.....leaving black hairs behind!

Jack is the same with Imperial Leather soap. It must have pheromones in it......

We officially adopted Bruce on Friday. He's a joy to have around the house but a nightmare on the lead! He is just so excited to be outside that all he wants to do is run, run run. Luckily he is fine off the lead and comes back when called.
Here we are on his first visit to the top of Weets last weekend. Both dogs were feeling lively.

Wendy is a Yorkshire Lass Stanley, what do you expect?

At that distance you cant see the wrinkles! I'm lucky to be healthy and mobile.

[Stanley]

I can never understand this modern thing about wrinkles.... Every now and again you see an older person (usually a woman) with a perfectly smooth face (and no character) that is obviously a triumph of the surgeon's art. Let's hear it for laughter lines! I wonder how much is spent per annum on anti-wrinkle creams.....

I see Puss in the background of the pic of your rather " windswept and interesting" husband too.
I am always amazed that when I look back on old photos, our dear cat was generally somewhere in the background...watching us.
Maybe she heard the rustle of the crisp packet.
Our dog could be fast asleep and snoring, but could hear the faintest, most distant rustle of a crisp packet. before you could even get it open, she would be at your side! it was impossible to sneak anything without her knowing.

My cat always comes when I get the Cheese out, and I give her 2 or 3 very tiny pieces.
She also likes to lick my fingertips when I'm eating Chicken Potato Crisps. lol

[Stanley]

Eigg was the same with a chocolate bar.... She could be asleep in the furthest corner of the house but open a chocolate bar and she was like a winged arrow.....

On cold winter evenings my cat and dog would come (together) and sit at my feet and stare at me.
When I asked "What do you want?", there was much excitement. ( dog licking her lips and cat doing loop the loops).
Then I'd get herded to the kitchen by both of them, and they would sit trembling with anticipation while I mixed a little egg and warm milk for them. Just a small amount each, and it probably wasn't something a vet would advise, but they would go mad for it.

Dogs like a raw egg and it does them no harm at all. Bess, my first Jack Russell bitch used to go down to the pen and bring fresh eggs back from the nest boxes. I have no doubt that if one broke she'd eat it but if they were intact she brought them into the house.



Bess is on the left, a wonderful little dog loved by all. She came to a bad end in 1960 at Hey Farm when she ran onto broken bottle somebody had thrown into the field. It opened all her belly up. We got her stitched up and she appeared to be recovering but infection set in and killed her. Such a shame.....
