Liz Truss
When challenged about her "U-turn", her reply amounted to "I don't agree with my own characterisation of what I had previously said".

Long, long ago in Scotland my friend and neighbour Jennie Tuffs started painting flowers. On a visit in 1981, before Jennie started exhibiting her work, my Dad bought a daffodil picture for me and one of poppies for Mum. My Daffodil picture still brings me joy every time I look at it.

When Mum died in 2014 my brother and I cleared her house and I never gave a thought to the Poppy picture till Steve recently said he had come across it stacked in his garage and did I want it. Yes please! When I visited him in Devon earlier this year we took it out of it's original cracked and dirty glass & clips frame and rolled it up into a tube. It arrived with me a few weeks ago and I've just got it back from the framers in Skipton, what a delight it is!

Forgive me for popping in - with an art story.

Splendid - in all respects. They are both great pictures and have already, and will continue to give lots of visual enjoyment Type that little 'provenance' out, and stick it on the back of the picture - someone will find it and love it - years hence.

The older I get - the more enjoyment I get from my pictures. There's a little story and a nice memory behind every one.

The first one I paid real money for was a difficult decision. I rang a dealer in the artist's work and he didn't quite know what to make of me. Lancashire curmudgeon meets Cotswolds sophisticated art gallery owner. I ran the estimated price by him, and he asked "does it speak to you". "Yes" - says I. "Then buy it" says he. I got him to say I'd come to no harm at the price, and I don't regret it for a moment. Not to everyone's taste - and I like it more than most people who see it, but that's fine.

It helped a lot when I noticed this photo of George Clonney's old office with Ellen de Generes. There's a very similar work on the wall. Just need the rest of the art world to notice it too.

PS Just googled Jenny Tuffs - Your dad was a good judge. Maybe they 'spoke to him' - I'm sure they did.

Allow me an art story? When I was doing Ellenroad I found out that Edna Lumb had done a series of paintings of the interiors and so I contacted her to see if I could use the images to raise money for the refurb, She said yes and it transpired that she was a friend of my mate John Pudney and they lived next door to each other at Greenwich so I got to meet her when on a visit to John and Monica. It turned out that she had one mill picture left, the one above, of Owl Mill Oldham. I bought it off her and she framed it and delivered it to me on a visit to Yorkshire. It was her last Lancashire Mill picture and for years Angela Croome, Edna's friend and co-conspirator tried to buy it off me, getting very persistent after Edna died. I fought her off and still have it and yes, I agree David, I got her to write a provenance for it and stick it on the back......

This is another original piece presented to me when I left Scotland 23 years ago today. It marked my involvement with the local drama group over many years, every poster on the wall was a production I was involved in and every book on the shelf has a relevance to my life! It is the work of another of my artistic neighbours called John Wilkinson, who was born in Preston. I did his family history a few years back and discovered that his ancestors came from Laneshawbridge just down the road from here.

I agree - hidden depths . . . . Tell us more.

Now - remember earlier in this thread I linked to a video of Moscow, and it despite bring filmed live, it all looked a bit too good to be true?

Well now I've found the antidote. This chap - who calls himself 'Bald and Bankrupt' is one of the most remarkable and interesting people I've ever seen on Youtube, and that's quite a claim. He has posted Vlogs from all over the place - he's even been to Blackpool.

This video is from 2021 and predates the current unpleasantness. Shows I think, the total lack of awareness of the blue and yellow clothes and ribbon wearers, and the Ukrainian garden flag flyers - and perhaps our politicians.

Try this for starters Ukraine Donbas region

There are loads more - fill your boots. Remarkable man.

We went to the Norton Fitzwarren Steam Fair on the weekend and as well as steam traction engines it had a good turnout of classic cars/vans (279), motorcycles (70) and commercial vehicles (40). I got a photo of this Hillman estate just as the car was leaving but didn't have a chance to ask the owner about it. It looks like a Minx estate, though I can't remember ever having seen one before.

I recognise that name and the pics in a google search look right so it must be that; but I can't recall ever seeing one `in the flesh'.

I had a good look round a Ford Prefect at Trawden Show yesterday, it really brought back some childhood memories. The shape of the leather seats, oh and the running boards! So useful for small children to sit on and tip the sand out of our shoes after a trip to the beach.
