I think the most useful bit of advice in that link was "Pause before you share"

I think the Meerkats have lost the plot! I have an email this morning to say that my car insurance is due in 14 days. They are only five months early, my renewal is actually in August.

Closer inspections says it is for a Chevrolet Cruze. They are confusing my actual insurance for the searches I did for various marques before we settled on the Hyundai. They will probably tell me the insurance for the Honda Jazz that I also don't own is due as well. :laugh5: :extrawink:

Did you see the news of possible sanctions on the Meercats?

Not sure if this is the place for this, if not, can it be put where it should go.
Advice on printer needed. Our printer has died, it used to be connected with a wire to the laptop and printed quite merrily. Now I need to upgrade to something which will talk to my iPhone, iPad and laptop without the need for a wire. And it also needs to be easy to set up, Ive seen loads, but when I look at the reviews they are a hassle to set up. It doesn’t have to work hard or jump through hoops, just print off family tree stuff and travel documents, and not cost the earth.

I don't have a printer at home but have seen the majority now work over wifi. From what I've read they look to be fairly straightforward to set up. I'm sure someone on here has a wireless printer and can point you in the right direction. In the meantime I'll do a bit more reading and see what I can find.

Thankyou Kev, I have thought of a wire which connects my iPad/iPhone to a printer but no one seems to be able to point me in that direction, even Curry’s suggested a new wireless printer instead.

I'm considering getting a replacement smartphone and welcome any comments and advice. I have a Samsung Moto G (3rd gen.) which was adequate because I usually carried it simply as an emergency phone. However, I've recently been drawn into WhatsApp by relatives and I'm finding it a bit fiddly compared with when I've used Mrs Tiz's Moto G7. Also her phone produces better photos and is just easier and quicker to use.

I could simply buy myself a better phone but Mrs Tiz uses a phone much more than I do so perhaps the best approach is to buy her a new and better phone and for me to inherit her G7 (which I'm already familiar with and it would do all I need and more). She uses her phone mainly for WhatsApp, checking news and weather, and for taking good photos of wildlife, geology, archaeology etc. Also needs a good battery charge life. Another Moto would probably fit the bill but when I did google searches and looked at reviews there seemed to be a multitude of Moto versions now. Any help welcome!

I have an iPhone 6s Plus, got it about three years ago from Argos, and it’s been great, I passed on my old one to Himself. We are both happy with what they do, especially photos, they are great, no complaints at all about them.

I think Samsung and Moto are not the same?

I thought my Moto G5 was dead, so bought a replacement Moto G7, which has a slightly larger screen. Then a new battery fixed the old one so I went back to it. Another spare phone for the collection. I think the price of Apple products is ridiculous, but their devotees seem to think they're worth it.

I don't know of anything I want to do that I can't do on the Moto. I use Tesco outlet and I'm happy to do do. The value seems good at the moment. They all have a 1 year warranty, and the choice is bewildering. As always - do your own research.
*************************************************************************************************************

PS as a result of this thread - I got the G7 out and had a play. Tried a program called Google Keep, which I've used in a rudimentary fashion for years. It takes and records notes, and is accessible on all platforms. I have just discovered that I can speak to it, and it types out what I say. Even more surprising - it does it perfectly and hasn't got a letter wrong yet- despite gruff voice and Lancashire accent. They say I can copy and move the content later. Uses English too - I need to say 'full stop' rather than 'period'.

I got the info from a Canadian guy on youtube called Dottotech. Recommended.
Now let's get on with translating the words into another language - should be easy - I already have an extension that translates the Russian comments on the Moscow chess site with just two clicks.

Both ours are the Motorola Moto G7 play. Android 10. So far I've had no problems and perfectly happy with it. Mrs P tend to 'experiment' and gets lost in the catacombs of settings. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Other than that I can't see the point in changing.

Thanks, all of you, for your thoughts. I'll keep on dipping into google searches. We too don't use any Apple products so the phone will probably be a Moto. I'm guessing that they are Samsung built and with a Motorola chip.

Try another guess I'd say. . . .

Is Motorola made by Samsung?
Motorola Mobility LLC, marketed as Motorola, is an American consumer electronics and telecommunications company, and a subsidiary of Chinese multinational technology company Lenovo. Motorola primarily manufactures smartphones and other mobile devices running the Android operating system developed by Google.

We both have Google Pixel 4a phones. Cheap and do everything we need, I like mine because its small enough to go in my pockets.

I have had 3 Motorola Mobiles, and quite liked my "Batphones", then I inherited a Samsung Galaxy S10 from our Jack. Can't fault it, faster, larger screen more of everything if you get my drift. Galaxy S20 or 21 I think is the latest incarnation. You can also still get the Galaxy S10's as refurbished. Wouldn't entertain any Apple product as they are a bit like Dyson kit, over hyped and overpriced.

News this morning that Elon Musk has bought Twitter for £34billion. He is an extreme supporter of 'free speech' and there is speculation that this could be good news for the trolls and extremists. There are also questions about how the deal is financed. Many believe that Musk's stocks are over-valued and this is a way of converting some into more stable values without actually having a fire sale of Tesla.

Broadband - it looked fairly innocuous when I renewed my deal last October. "The price will rise on 30 April by RPI +3.9 %"

Seems RPI is 5.4 % so an overall increase of 9.3 %.

Still - trivial compared to energy costs. Too much hassle to change -so I'll just 'suck it up'.

That's one of the hidden problems when we have high inflation, we get used to rises. I heard an executive of the Trussell Trust yesterday saying that inflation was well over the 8% forecast in essentials like utilities, rent and food and the consequences were already clear in the growth of demand for the services of food banks.

After refusing me a good deal to renew my broadband contract Sky are now sending me 'begging' emails. I wonder if many others did the same thing and took our business elsewhere.

Here's a handy tip. If your computer display suddenly and unexplainedly goes upside down - and it's happened to me twice now. - press Ctrl Alt Down arrow, and it will flip back. Good fun once you know about it. With left and right arrows it goes sideways. Try it. . . .

Usually happens late at night.
