Stayed in Limone, on Lake Garda, a few years ago. A lovely part of the world.

Chipping Steam Fair yesterday, lovely to see it so busy, it’s on today as well if anyone fancies a trip out. Lots to see and do for all the family.

Ardamurchan Point via West Lothian. Long, tiring drives (720 miles altogether) but beautiful weather and glorious scenery.
Reverse order!

:good: Excellent Wendy. Last time we were up there you had to be within 10 feet of the lighthouse to see it because the fog was so thick!

We have spent many a wakeful night up there with the old foghorn blasting out. It was stunning weather but a part of me longed to see the waves crashing against the rocks!

The Maid of Glencoul was being used for the ferry service as the larger, more modern ferry has been out of action for months. She seemed very familiar.

Furthest point West on the mainland of the Isles as well..... That always surprised me but if you look on the map it's true.

The journey is amazing even though the last 40 miles or so are physically exhausting! My neighbour Joanna and I once made it up there with 5 young children in the car, we must have borrowed a friend's Marina Estate for that trip and had 2 sat in the back. I'm going to have to check that fact as it seems unlikely now I think about it! There is a point along the road where a gap in the hills frames your first view of the sea and the islands.....
We were meant to be spending this holiday with Joanna, whose family still own the caravan, but three weeks earlier she had been there by herself and had slipped and fallen while investigating rock pools at low tide. Her leg was broken and she had to drag herself to safety and a phone signal, which took two hours! It must have been a terrifying ordeal and she was very lucky to get a phone signal, we couldn't get anything until we were at the lighthouse.
She is making a good recovery now, all pinned together, despite being 76.

I lied, it was 4 children....
I can't resist posting this photo from 1982 when we were taking a break from refurbishing the first caravan we took up to the site at Ardnamurchan. Myself, Col and Joanna with assorted children in the grounds of her parent's house in Harburn. We adopted Craig the following year.
