It's the 80th anniversary year of Rolls Royce in the town. Yesterday was an event to mark that for employees and their families and invited guests. There were factory tours and the main event down at the Social Club. There was a Spitfire in the car park, I think the one that is normally on display at Blackpool Airport. A static Merlin engine with a short prop was doing regular run ups outside the ballroom. Various local organisations had stalls outside, including Pendleside Hospice , the local lads and lassies from Barnoldswick Army Cadets and Bosom Friends, we used the occasion to promote our recent re-branding for all our publicity material, cards and our new website. We had a friend of the group who was doing face painting for the younger kids. Inside there were lots of historical photos of various sections and processes of the Bankfield and Ghyll Brow sites. Food was available from the Social Club kitchen. The ballroom had a band playing 40's favourites. Earby and Barlick History Societies put on a couple of excellent displays complete with our very own Wendy and Margaret manning the displays. Marred slightly with the mid afternoon downpour but that only lasted about an hour.

I went on the factory tour in the morning at Bankfield, I tagged along with Kirsty one of our trustees who works on the site. She did an excellent job of describing the areas she has worked in over the years.

Our thanks go to Barnoldswick Rotary Club for the loan of their Gazebo for the event. We are in the process of buying one for Bosom Friends as we intend to do more promotional events.

This weekend me and P are at Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire, for a tribute acts weekend. We've had The Beatles, Blondie, Whitney Houston and Rod Stewart. Tonight we have ABBA which should be a good do to finish off the weekend.

and a very good do it was too, incredibly lucky with the weather. Sunshine, thunder, lightning and a couple of torrential downpours but we stayed dry.

Not just Ian. I've four old bikes in my garage The oldest being a 1930 New Imperial. and the youngest a Velocette Valiant (work in progress) a mini BMW look a like. The whole restoration and second hand bike markets are now at silly prices that they have become investments rather than hobbies.

Has someone taken over the Lock Stop and reopened it Stanley or was your brew home made so to speak?

Lock Stop was closed Ian. We were self supporting.

I thought I would ask. Lock Stop would be a nice little earner for anyone willing to take it on. A bit like the former corner shops but not quite as convenient. Always a demand and well supported in the past.

Thanks for that Kev, I had an idea I had seen something about it somewhere. I would have thought they would have opened by now though for the Spring and Summer trade.

For other terminally curious people Lock Stop

From what I read about other catering businesses throughout the whole country - I'd say it is probably now not viable. Perhaps for a 'pop up' charity run venture to reduce the overheads ?

It's only a small wooden cabin with a counter and drop down shutter in the corner of a car park Tripps. Everything is to take out, no seating apart from a few picnic tables at the locks. It's a great little place.

Back in the days before Lock Stop was even thought of I used to take a bacon Butty, a flask of coffee and the Sunday papers down to that picnic area if it was fine. I enjoyed it but everything has changed now.

Halifax, having a wander around the Piece Hall. Been lucky with the weather so far, we're still dry.
There looks to be a music event, or has been, as there's a stage set up.

Update
Yorkshire Proms
For the first time in its history, The Piece Hall is hosting a dedicated Proms night featuring the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra on 23 July 2023.

The Yorkshire Proms aims to offer northern audiences a comparable live experience to the revered event held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Park Hill Barn, Barrowford for a buffet lunch. Two local lads, Josh Hindle and Matt Whatley, provided the Broadway Brunch entertainment, 2 hours of songs from the shows.
