I've looked and I can't see a way of altering Gedit to stop it doing what it's doing.
I can use Libre Office Writer and it doesn't happen.

I washe3d the text through Office Writer this morning and that seems to have cured it but nowhere near as convenient as Gedit. I am still using Gedit for other transfers and am not having a problem. The root is in the coding of the raw notes as I get them.

Ask Bob to send it to you in a plain text email message or as a plain text (.txt) attachment. HTML emails are what Terry Pratchett would have called an embuggerance.

P&O Cruises opened up the booking, for 'speciality' dining, on my upcoming cruise (not long to go now), it crashed their website. Social media was full of commentary about it. I logged on this morning and booked tables at Sindhu, the 'Indian' restaurant on board and The Beach House, a Mexican/Carribbean themed restaurant. Will be a nice treat for two of the evenings onboard.
I wonder how many trying to get onto the website realised they were the problem.

I think that qualifies for 'the high life'..... :biggrin2:
This site can't be accused of not being eclectic!

The site seems to be going very slow this morning. I thought it was down at first as it took quite a while. Maybe it’s just mine, but everything else seems quick enough.

Not just you Gloria, it's been slow to stop since I first looked in before 7am.

On a quick check the server CPU has a critical warning it is ramped up at 98%

Will have a poke about.

It was OK up to 06:00 when I left for the shed but had gone into slo-mo when I tried to post at 07:00.

CPU is now registering in the green, need to see how it goes for a while to get a better picture. I may go for a server restart.

Spoke too soon, ramped up again. We are being plagued by a Spam server that is resistive to firewall rules.

I tried it last night and it was fast, this morning it’s on a go slow again, a very go slow.

The Server CPU is 100% saturated which is why its busted. I had 6 hours chasing yesterday and tried a lot of solutions to no avail. Will have another go today.

Users should be aware that the site will be subject to outages not related to the current issue. This could be anytime from tomorrow and over the next few days. IONOS who hosts the VPS server and our site are migrating the servers to faster infrastructure which can only be done in a shut down state. There is no defined time for this it will just happen when its out turn. The outage should only last an hour or so but there may be remedial work to do after the move.

As already said this has nothing to do with the current fault which is a bit of a Catch 22 situation. I have one control interface for the admin of the site saying that all is well and a different view of the VPS showing that it is running in CPU overload which is clearly the case. It smacks of another DDos, automated spam server attack or something similar but the logs run to thousands of lines so it's somewhat involved seeing the wood for the trees.

I've set up a private Facebook group so we can chat about the site if we can't get on here. Kevin, Sue and Tripps have joined already and I've sent invites to Ian and Gloria. Its called OneGuyFromBarlick Chat.

Good idea to have a fall back. Thanks Wendy. We could also hang out here when IONOS shifts the server instance.
