I'm not the greatest fan of Christmas but they may be taking it a bit far :biggrin2:

Definitely going too far Kev! You can't sanitise a Santa after every encounter so that knocks the grotto out.

Barlick moved into full Xmas experience yesterday with the switch on ceremony for the lights, at first I wondered why world war three had broken out but then found it was the ceremony in the Town Square.
So from now on we can expect to be bombarded with advertising.
(Last night on TV I saw the Coca Cola road train..... It is getting serious.)

Santa should be fine by Christmas Eve though. He'll have been isolating at the North Pole for 364 days..!

A bit harsh to bury him though :biggrin2:

I wonder if whoever thought up the text for the banner has been forgiven. Something like that could follow you raight the way through life.....
The space cleared at the front of the Co-op supermarket has been filled now with joyous festive offerings.

Things are warming up. We have the first Xmas trees in house windows and some outside displays....

I have almost completed the purchasing of gifts, it must be the earliest ever. Me and P treated ourselves to new toothbrushes, we like practical and the old ones needed charging every couple of days.

And I've treated myself to a specimen of borolanite, an unusual rock found only at Loch Borrolan in Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland.

Called in at Stanley's favourate Colne market tool stall. Bought a heavy gauge extension cable, God knows how long it is, New double socket and plug £15. Not the sort of thing that you can show off at your Xmas party but who cares. :laugh5:

He has some decent stuff at good prices Ken. Must pop to Colne for a shufti before Xmas....
Here in Barlick the tide of festive goods rises. The nearest I have got to joining in is an extra bag of sprouts this week, they are lovely!

You've reminded me Cathy. Any day now my friend Julie will send husband Philip round with 6 mince pies. She bakes exceedingly good mince pies!

It's that time of year again. only 53 days to go. I was reminded by seeing my first Xmas based advertisement on TV yesterday. I forget what it was for, I am advert proof, but did recognise the Xmas flavour.....
I've just realised, they have been advertising the Xmas lights switch on for a week now in the Pioneer car park.

Two Xmas related advertisements on TV last night. You can run but you can't hide. They are coming down the track.
I fear there may be a hint of desperation this year given the economic outlook.

Several weeks ago the John Lewis chain reported that people were already buying Christmas presents and festive stuff. It believes folk are getting in early because they fear price rises and less discounting.

There is no doubt the Xmas advertising season is well under way.... (Big M&S one last night.)
Peter, those people might be making a mistake. If forecasts are right about lack of customers and spending power hitting the Xmas gold rush on the High Street the object might be to get stock out of the shops even at cost and so price-cutting could start even earlier.
There was a metaphor for this last night. What would normally be a cacophony of fireworks was a muted grumble.

The lights in the sky last night were the Guy Fawkes die-hards letting off their fireworks. Many more than the night before so someone has still got some money!

Even more fireworks last night. I was totally wrong about money holding people back. Or are they bought on credit?

Very few fireworks here - we probably heard more when Liz Truss fell from grace! :laugh5:

I was quite surprised Peter by the number there were.
There are growing signs of disquiet in the ranks of the retailers. The fact that there is no certainty of government policy until Thursday 17th of November is exacerbating attitudes. That is very late for anyone to have certainty and plan for Xmas. At the moment it's wait and hope and there isn't a lot of optimism about!
