The small Xmas trees are up on individual shops and today they are erecting the large emitters in the Town Square ready for the full turn on on Saturday the 19th.....

The lights are on. The large emitters in the Town Square have new lights in them which are not relaxed like the old ones which just changed colour slowly. Now we have a frenetic display of colours controlled by a computer programme. Not a very relaxing watch but I suppose that's a consequence of age.....

Xmas advertising is in full swing now and while we haven't seen the Coca Cola road train yet we have had a Tesco advertisement that is a pale imitation.
The advert that really grabbed me was for a 'Gin Club'. For a mere Β£42 a month you will receive a bottle of 'artisan gin' and mixers. How can anyone resist such a bargain?

Sally has worked her Christmas trimming magic on the Bosom Friends Centre this morning.

Will be nice for the Coffee Morning and other users of the centre.

It's Xmas Box time again. An old fashioned custom that I still keep up for the bin men, the postie and the street sweeper.
It really does have an effect and it lasts for a full year!

Merry Christmas to everyone apart from those that nicked the nativity post box topper done by our local Yarn Faeries that was on the box outside the post office. :dontgetit:

I couldn't believe that someone would damage something like that.... I'm glad all is turning out well.
(Hugely impressed that Cathy gave us the news..... Bit Like my Margaret in Perth being the Antipodean version of the BET!)

We enter that time of the year when the Xmas lights look increasingly redundant and we will shortly have the annual debate about exactly when Twelfth Night is and whether it is the right time to take the decorations down.
I always remember how bare the house looked for a while after we had taken the trimmings down. Bit like a cold bath after Xmas......

It's a strange Christmas. A couple of days ago we had hours of torrential rain and the floods down the street pushed spouts of water up through the manholes. Memories of Blackburn in the 1950s!

Us Crumblies notice the change Peter. We can remember when the weather was more settled. People keep telling us that our memories are at fault but you've only to look at the records to see that we are right.

It's happening to summer too. Even in the 1980s we were able to sit out in the garden on a summer evening until dusk, not a breathe of wind, moths working the buddleias and the odd pipistrelle flitting about. Now it's gusty winds blowing the blossom off the trees and the bushes, and temperatures unreliable.

Careful Peter, we're beginning to sound like a couple of Old Codgers! (But you're right....)

Last year the flood of Xmas related advertising started 53 days before Xmas. I am sorry to report that this year it has started 70 days before. I popped into the Co-op to get some peppers as I will be roasting my chicken early this week and there, on the gravy flavouring shelf, was a small notice exhorting me to stock up for Xmas.
Could this be an indication of how desperate the retailers are to have a good Xmas?

I found absolute proof that we have entered the Xmas season in the greengrocer's this week. The sprout harvesting season has started.
