Today was glass splashback installation day in our kitchen. ( if you recall, my oven "blew" at Easter and we had cabinets remodelled to fit a bigger stove and rangehood in...the glass splashbacks were the last addition to cover old tiles that we could not match after remodelling).
One side went well. The other side was an incredible 10cm short along one edge!
The installation men explained that up until very recently, they had endured a disgruntled employee, who had left a wake of jobs he had measured for them...all 10cm short in one area! His little "calling card".
So we have to wait another few weeks now for a new one to be made. No cost to us, of course, except time and patience.
We had a laugh about it and I said "at least he got the colour right. He could have put anything down on his order sheet and we could have ended up Lilac or something." But apparently he stuck to his 10 cm protest...
You wonder where the world is heading some days.

You'd think they would have mailed customers and asked them to check. Any discrepancy and they could go back and remeasure accurately. Or sent paper patterns?
More cloud about this morning..... and I have had a big sleep.

The original measurements were drawn up by hubby ( don't forget he designs homes for a living and has professional architect programmes). They were submitted to the Glazier for a ball park figure. They then sent their measurer to view the job, take exact measurements and provide a proper written quote. Which we accepted, obviously. We also attended their workshop for colour selections and took samples home to view the finish both in daylight and evening light. We still have our original measurements and they are correct. They say the disgruntled employee deliberately gave incorrect measurements on a range of his final jobs ( from kitchen splashbacks to showers screens and bathroom mirrors). He took 10cm off each job.
( this was their explanation anyway...could be complete fabrication of course and they may just be incompetent!)
If it turns up wrong again, or the colour doesn't match, there will be sparks flying. ( whilst we paid a third deposit in good faith, they won't get the rest until we are completed in a satisfactory manner...
So we wait once again...3 to 4 weeks...

Hard luck Maz..... As long as it's satisfactory in the end!
Bit of history here. See THIS account of the trial of the men who crushed Victor Jara's hands so he could never play again and then killed him. Who he? The most famous folk singer in Chile, a Communist and a supporter of Victor Allende. In 1973 the CIA engineered a coup in Chile which resulted in an orgy of murder and torture and the installation of Pinochet as a right wing dictator. One of the murkiest episodes in US foreign policy.
45 years later at least one piece of justice has been delivered. Someone had a long memory......

A baby lizard 3cm long emerging from under our sofa in the lounge last night. Hope they are not breeding there! We don't mind lizards, they are like spiders, they help to keep creepy crawlies at bay. They are so small that they can easily pass under sliding windows and patio doors.

David Whipp shepherding three well dressed people around the town in the morning, judges for Britain in Bloom?
The Amesbury poisonings are confirmed as Novichok.
Did anyone hear the excellent R4 programme yesterday on the difference between London transport funding per head and the rest of the country? If you missed it go and find it. It goes directly to the disgraceful way deregulation in the rest of the country has damaged services. And by the way, Jeremy Corbyn asked a question in PMQs yesterday about to 46% cut in funding since 2010 and May's response was to say it was down to local government to address the shortfall. No mention that they have been cut as well.

I'm confused (I think). I'm watching Wimbledon and it's 2.10pm in London but the OG time says 1.10pm. Is the site not bothering to change it?
It's OK, I can handle it haha, but it's just a bit weird.

With the site being UK based the time shown on the Index page is correct. As Kev says local time to you is controlled in your user control panel.

One of the Thai Divers has died returning through the cave system after taking supplies to the stranded children and coach. So sad...apparently it takes 6 hours to get to the group and another 5 hours to get back out.
Must be gruelling working conditions and the long hours wouldn't help.

Later.....I was listening to Woman's Hour and they interviewed a headmistress about the incidence of measles in the school. It turns out that many parents haven't been vaccinated and even some teachers as well and the number of reported cases has jumped suddenly. I forget the figures but it was very significant. In this day and age.......

This is another example of "events dear boy" brought about by the irrational but ramped up in the media recoil against the MMR vaccine. Unfortunately we will reap what what many unenlightened people have sown.

That's a tall bloke at Fareham!
The fact that as the thick walls soak up the sun the heat is starting to get into the house. My bathroom is a cosy 29C!
This continued hot weather saps my energy, we aren't used to it! I wonder what the cost is to the economy overall as workers wilt. I remember in 1976 that it dropped productivity in the weaving shed which, despite the north facing lights in the roof got very warm. I had to saw the ends off three cross shafts because they expanded so much that they hit the wall, must have been the hottest they'd been since the shed was built in 1920.

I am waiting waiting waiting to hear good news on those souls remaining in the cave in Thailand...it has been a long few days.
I find it quite stressful, waiting for news. I know I am going to cry whatever the outcome. If my child was in that situation I would wish them not to resort to sedation as they brought them through ( I think that would double the difficulty trying to manoeuvre them).
Did I just see a flash on our TV screen that said child No. 5 is out???
Hopefully more good news to come!

Nineteen Aussies over there assisting...one being an Adelaide Anaesthesiologist, with extensive cave diving experience. (wherever there is a disaster, there are generally Aussies giving a hand)
Fingers crossed for the remaining five souls.
