Truncated ends I am more normally used to seeing where roads ( or railways ) have split former terraces in two , around Hunslet in South Leeds for example , or as a result of Bomb damage or the subsequent demolition and sometime rebuild, interesting to see some from new.

Smashing photo Stanley, prior to the Liberal Club, the early and late shows used to be held at Gisburn Road school. My dad is in the photo (second one from the front on the left) scrutinising the spuds, they could be his. He used to love growing onions, spuds, tomatoes and all manner of other veg down at his allotment at Havre Park. My mum used to enter her Chrysanthemum's and Sweet Williams. I still love Sweet Williams, always reminds me of mum walking back up home with a basket full.

Someones posted the new pub sign for The Greyhound anyone got a picture of the old sign ? The new matches well the current colour scheme , are there any awards we can put the refurbishment forward for , as it shows what can be done by a few individuals .

What is now the taxi office in Station Road. It was in bad shape so in 1979 I bought it for £300, paid John Northage £600 to completely refurbish it and sold it at cost. It's been in use ever since.

You did a good search Kev. I had forgotten the one that has Barbara's florist shop on it. The car park was before the Pioneer store was built.



These are the engine beds in the cellar of the old Central Co-op building at demolition in 1989. They were for the gas engines which drove the generators supplying electricity in the building before mains power became available.

Haworth's pop wagon delivering in Frank Street in 1980. An old Ford 4D diesel wagon. It used basically the same engine as the Ford Major tractor and was I think their first diesel wagon. It had a transmission hand brake and the nicest set of instruments on the dashboard I have ever seen in a wagon. More car practice than commercial.

These buildings on York Street used to be the nerve centre for the Rediffusion network in Barlick. 'Pipe' television and radio distribution.

Coates in 1905, we can date it because the new shed at Bankfield is built. Note the outline of Christopher Bracewell's Bank House on the horizon and the chimney of New Coates Mill on the right.

Did the Rediffusion wiring go to every premises? Is it still there? MIght be an opportunuty for a high speed ineternet system? If it carried several TV channels plus radio it must have quite a large bandwidth.

Just about. After it was abandoned it was left in but over the years most people have taken their cables down. Never understood how Rediffusion got away with leaving it there.

As Stanley says it was abandoned and most of it has now gone. It used to run along the gable of my first house and I used to receive an annual way-leave payment, I think it was about 75p. The service was redundant by the time me and my dad pointed the 96 course of Yorkshire points on the gable so I took it down and weighed the copper in at the scrap yard. It was quite heavy multicore copper cable. I often thought that I should have bought a ladder and offered to take it down for nowt for folk. It would certainly have been worth the effort. There was miles of the stuff up and down town. Most will have ended up in landfill. Opportunity missed.

Butts chimney in 1978. This octagonal chimney had already been reduced by removing part of the original stonework and also the brick extension added by Billycock to give more draught so as to burn the lower quality coal from his newly acquired Ingleton coal mines.

The second hand Musgrave engine installed at Butts Mill in 1899 to replace the old beam engines. The engineer is George Hogarth.
