The internet is blamed for the decline of the High Street but there is another class of trade the online traders have totally destroyed, door to door traders. They used to range from Insurance and loans companies through milk chaps and Indian Gentlemen with suitcases to onion sellers and gypsies selling clothes pegs and bits of lace. We are seeing a nostalgia boom in doorstep milk deliveries but as far as I can see, all the others are now forgotten corners.
Perhaps they have been replaced by fast food deliveries and people in vans delivering supermarket orders and parcels.

I have a Do Not Knock sign on my front window, have done for many years. I can’t stand unauthorised people knocking on my door, trying to sell me services and stuff. It’s against the law here now anyway. Too many shoddy so called traders , I think.
Mind you, a few weeks ago a man knocked on my door and said he was doing a survey for local radio stations. I was already annoyed with him and had said No, but he went on to ask me if I would be interested in keeping a Diary of what I listened to and at what times.
My radar went up. Goodbye!
I should have asked him for his business card and ABN (Aust. Business Number), I could have reported him and maybe his company would have been fined.)

The last cold caller at Graham Towers was a man delivering fast food who had the wrong address Cathy. I don't know if it's legal or not.

Looking at the building behind this bus I'd say this is Station Road.

As a side note, some wives catch their husbands looking at "naughty pictures" on the internet.
My wife seems to always catch me looking at old buses

It's a Preston Reg number - so perhaps a Ribble bus?

I can only remember Ribble running double deckers through Barlick. Laycocks were all single as were BCN from memory. Having said that I think BCN may have had a double for the school run to Earby, Mick will be able to confirm I reckon.

Royce's workers buses from Burnley were the open back double deckers. Two buses set off from the Palace cinema Burney centre one off none stop to Barlick and the other picking up at Duke bar and Nelson centre. Parked above Hartley's and waited for the nightshift. At least they got warm seats.

Only very occasionally from my memory, Ian. Usually they ran 2 single deckers to Earby.
One went via Sough, the other over The Ranch.

This is the kind of bus I used to take to get to school as a lad in Bradford. An electric trolleybus.
All gone now, of course although they'd be environmentally friendly now.
Looking at the location, this image was taken from the end of the street I lived on.

Some good posts there.Yes, Ribble were the only ones who had double deckers regularly and of course this was later the White Ladies on the Manchester to Southport express service.

I remember the trolleybuses in Bradford and the trams in Leeds, which were still running when we moved there in 1956.

The old police station on Manchester Road in 2018. When the police moved into the new police station on Fernlea Avenue in the 1960s the complaint I heard was that it was a retrograde step as there wasn't enough room for the full sized billiard table in the old one.

When we moved to Barlick in 2004 we had the property details for the old police station. If I remember correctly it was up for sale with Harris and Moss for £60,000 and still had the cells in it. With the benefit of hindsight I should have bought it

It also had the mortuary at the back.....

I think it was the 80's or early 90's when they moved to the new Police Station.

That's the one, it wasn't that much money when I looked at it though. It needed a new roof and a complete refit inside

One thing about the old police station, it will be well built.
