LIGHTS IN THE SKY

A fortnight to go and the pace is hotting up. Reports from Mrs Trelliss of three bearded men in the back of a Toyota pick-up heading across Syrian desert. It looks as though the Magi have modernised and accepted protection. Mrs T also apologised for the loss of Freesat reception in Barlick, Boris had got his settings wrong and inadvertently knocked the satellite out.

Sounds like he is back on the tonic !!

If he ever went off it! Mind you Mrs T is keeping very quiet about him and no concrete sightings. On the advertising front the retailers are in full flow now. We shall shortly have news items about turkeys versus geese for Xmas day and doubtless the first pre-Xmas sales! Have given out the Xmas boxes to the post, binmen and our local streetsweeper Mark who is a treasure. He's a worker and makes so much difference to the town centre, easy to tell when he's had a day off, his replacement is nowhere near as good.

We get different postmen most days, the bin lorry never has the same crew and we never see a street cleaner.

We must be lucky here Moh, regular crews and they always want Jack to go out and play with them, he is convinced they steal the bins each week! Temporary post lady came round the corner on Monday and was aghast when she saw this small dog attacking the bin men. I'm afraid the bin men laughed at her but I understand why she was wary, you have to get to know him.

Our bin men are great and I always give them a Xmas tip. Postmen vary and some weeks its a different one every day. If I see the one who calls me "young man" before Xmas there's a bottle of wine waiting for him.
We also had the cobbled hill otside our house gritted by hand this week. Second time in 30 years and when I mentioned it to the guy in charge his response was " No coffee and mince pies, your lucky to get it done at all" I met his good natured response with an offer of a brew for him and his lads every time they spread the stuff.Nolic

Comrade, we are lucky in Barlick because even though they change the posties round they come from a small pool in the town so word gets back to HQ who the donors are. Consequence is the posties in Barlick usually wave to me. I also slip a tip every now and again to the bloke on the street sweeper who cleans our back street. We certainly get good service from them, our back street is as clean as any in Barlick.

May have a bit of news soon, hubby is going to infiltrate the Old Gimmers meeting in Trawden tomorrow.

Wonderful Moh! It's about time we got some hard information. When I went for the Radio Times yesterday they had the Xmas two week edition on sale as well. I now have my RT for the next three weeks!

Noticeable that the supermarket car park is very busy. The great Xmas stocking up frenzy is in full swing! That reminds me, must get my festive paper towel supply.....

I don't think we need to worry about the gimmers in Trawden this year, apparently their underground caves have been flooded and everything down there is unusable.

[Stanley]

That explains why there have been no reports of vertically challenged persons in Trawden.

Instead of a turkey scare we are told that Novovirus will be widespread over Xmas and thousands of people could be writhing in agony. Nice......

Xmas shopping yesterday, 'festive' kitchen rolls.......

Our road is very festive with house decorated with lots of lights, it's lovely it all seems so drab when they all take them down. Good luck with the xmas shopping Stanley, I hate the crowds. Eileen

Don't need any Eileen. Festive kitchen rolls were the only item on the list!
The car park at the Cathedral of Choice is getting more full by the day. I suppose next Monday will be panic day!

They will be nearly there now so I think we could be safe for another year.

I shan'/t take the foil out till they switch the emitters off. One thing I noticed was very little signs of the Xmas sales coming early..... No warmings about turkey. Is Xmas totally dead?

I saw the Coca Cola wagons on screen the night before last. This signals the final Xmas assault by the advertisers!

It's been about on other channels for a while.

First time I'd come across it Moh. The car park at the Cathedral of Choice was jam-packed all day yesterday. What do they do with all that food? Shopping stress over now for another year, only 'normal' Xmas day problems now!

Moh, you've reminded me of the wonderfully funny posts we had on the shops in Barrowford. I do miss Nandy Gigglepants' contributions. I know that sites like Oneguy grow and change but sometimes we lose good stuff. It was one of the reasons why the site took off so quickly.

For some strange and unknown reason, the name 'Nandy Gigglepants' came to mind.

Google soon scratched the itch - after we had eliminated all the Lisa Nandy connections. Only 11 years ago.

I shall be seeking treatment. . . .

We had a Coke-Cola Christmas ad about a week ago, I think it was different to yours. You’re lucky if you catch it each year.
We’ve also had a lovely new Christmas ad from Telstra.
A young boy comes across a lost reindeer and he phones Santa, to let him know.
It’s one of those “Aaw” moments.
