I'm going to need another meeting with Doc, OGFB is a long way from a standard install of phpbb. It has a lot of addons and modifications that I'm struggling with. The topics and posts are the easy bit, because they are standard. Doing a wholesale copy didn't work, probably because my hosting has different versions of the standard software that all hosting (the so called LAMP server Linux, Apache Mysql, PHP) has and the addons don't get on with it.

Keep up the good work Pluggy! We paid in a dollop of money the other day when we saw this thread but I'm not sure where it will have gone - into Doc's treasure chest or into your OG funds?

Speaking from a position of deep ignorance - why does it all have to be moved? Can we not just transfer the control and administration of the site rather than the site?

OGFB isn't the only site on Doc's hosting. Giving me charge of OGFB also gives me charge of his 3 or 4 other sites. I wouldn't want me picking around in there either ;) I think doc was talking about moving them onto cheaper hosting once OGFB is off there.

The donations are still going to Doc, I was going to change it over to my paypal account when the changeover is complete.

I have it working but missing some of the addon modules.

You can even login and post in there but I I wouldn't as this one is still the master. Its quite straightforward to get all the posts across at some point during the changeover. The nature of DNS means there will be a period when some are seeing the old site and some the new.

Plugs, I am just grateful that we have someone expert enough to be able to handle the changes. The bottom line is that you will set up the new platform to suit yourself and I think we are all resilient enough to adapt if necessary. I can only guess at the number of hours you are putting in. Thanks for that!

Nag Doc for a copy of the full archive he has on his pen drive!

I rang him yesterday and his voicemail picked up, I left a message and he hasn't got back to me yet. I'll prod him again today.

I'll nag him as well. I shall ask him to call in and I'll copy the archive so at least one of us has it.

I spoke to him yesterday afternoon we spoke for a while, he said he'd take a look at how far I'd got and call me back. Still waiting...

For better or worse, I'm now the keeper of OGFB. I hold the entire keychain and the hosting is now on my tab. Changes (I have a few in mind) will be gradual and consulted on here before the event. I may not be an overtly political animal , but I believe in democracy. I won't be making any radical changes, Doc has a grey hair or two that could be attributed to the flak he's had for unpopular changes. I like a quiet life....... ;)

Lets's get FMIII and Tizer's box out of the way first. I'm expecting Tiz's bits today, yours was due yesterday. Adverse weather conditions perhaps.

I'm glad to hear you've got full control now Pluggy. Set a course and off we go...
One small thing - I noticed that whenever I go to the main forum page and click on the `Archived OGFB Website' I get a `Forbidden' and `404' warning yet I've managed to find individual pages of the old site.

Hi Cathy, it looks like life in Australia is turbulent! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21893523

You are now the keeper of the keys and we all make up your chain--away we go-----into infinity and beyond.

The thing to do now is send a donation for this year if you haven't done so already. Best way to support Plugs is to make sure the hosting is paid for, everything else will follow.

Now that the handover of the site is completed I'd like to wish Pluggy and all the members of OGFB all the best for the future, I will still be hanging around for a while to offer any help I can to Pluggy from a technical point of view until he gets comfortable with the in's and out's of the site.

Since March 2004 ( 9 Years ) I have enjoyed establishing and running the site and meeting new friends, over the years we have survived numerous hacking attacks, server crashes, data losses and other unforeseen events but OGFB still survives today and long it may continue.

A special heart felt thank you to all those who made donations over the years to help support the site, there were times when it was looking a bit iffy especially when I was ill and not working with no income, but the support of the donors helped tremendously.

Pastures new now beckon me and I am happy that I have left the site in a pair of more than capable hands, please support the site by making a donation no matter how small or big it may be, every little helps.

All my very best regards

March 2004 seems a long way away doesn't it. All the best Dave and make sure you keep in touch. By the way, Pluggy has the archive of the old site I take it? Getting that back on line would be the best boost the site could have, so much good stuff in there....

I'm looking at the archive site access problem. I suspect it got mangled when Doc was removing all his own stuff off the server prior to handover.

I believe Doc has a pen drive with the original archive on it, the last complete back-up he did before the crash. I may be wrong about this but ask him.
