Hello Folks,

I am interested in finding my old associates in jig and tool drawing office at Barnoldswick, Rolls Royce Factory.

I recently had contact with a Dennis French from Gargrave and had some interesting exchanges.

Being at a ripe old age of 86 (time marches on!), I would be very much interested in hearing from any of my old associates.

I worked in the D.O at bankfield shed and wellhouse mill and Jim Davies was my boss.

I emigrated to Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1998 and now a converted east anglian.

I have posted this picture for Ron showing his retirement party from Rolls Royce.

I worked with George Brass when I was at Mal Tool. I believe he was in the drawing office at RR. He hailed from Clitheroe.
A really nice bloke, and extremely clever. He was also an avid fell runner.

I left Mal Tool in 1995 and had a long chat with him just before my departure.
Sadly he died shortly afterwards, actually around a week before he was due to retire..

Keep nudging them Mick. Someone will surface eventually!

Having never worked at Rolls Royce I'm unfamiliar with the different departments. There may well have been several different drawing offices.
I'm pretty sure that George was chief draughtsman of his particular department and was head hunted for the newly opening Colne branch of Mal Tool on Cotton Tree Lane circa 1970/1971.
I know the fledgling company, an offshoot of a privately owned American East Coast concern,was mainly built up around prominent Rolls workers at the start up.

He was a well respected asset.

I've been told that a group of retired draughties have been meeting once a month over the last ten years. The details from one of the more regular attendees is.

The last Friday in every month (28 June being the next date)
Carf's Head. Worston. Nr Clitheroe.
Arrive between .12-00 to 12-15. Lunches booked on arrival at 12-30.
Very informal gathering, Just general chat and back slapping.
Average attendance between 6-8 people.

A word on George Brass. Not only was he a first class engineer and draughtsman but to say he was a fell runner is an understatement. Anyone who can win "The Three Peaks" is something special.

Thank you for your comments and research. If I lived in the North it would have been great to catch up with the draughties.

On the off...is there anybody new out there who is in the picture or who has links with Rolls Royce from that era?

Sorry for a delayed response...things have slowed down now that I'm in my 90th year!

Ron, There are quite a few who are still up and running but sadly some have slipped off to the promised land. I'm not an attendee to the monthly meet at the calf's head but I am in contact with someone who is a regular. I'll ask him to raise your request at the next meeting. It'll take a couple of weeks but I'll keep you posted.
