I've just been over to Skipton & back and the views from the top by Pinhaw were stunning. The low lying mist was sitting in the Aire Valley and the sun just picking out the autumn colours on the tops of the hills.

Good view of the mist lying over Barlick. Nice to see the horses out this late in the year without coats and in decent dry weather. How old are they Wendy?

Little Sparky facing the camera is 26 and Dennis is 30. They had their dental check on Tuesday and Dennis's teeth are excellent for his age so he could well go on for a few more years. Sparky's molars are nearly worn away but he is still eating well. They don't have rugs on if it's a dry day, and Sparky only needs one in extreme conditions. They love to roll in the mud and sheep droppings...

Sorry if that sounds a bit morbid, but I was just thinking they have probably spent more time together than most married couples..

I showed Wendy's photos to my partner, and suggested it might be nice if we lived on a hill. Mary's reply was that we would have to have a long stair lift put in.

Good point Maz, but these two have only been together for a few years since my other horse Robbie had to be put down. Dennis can't spend 10 minutes alone without working himself up into a state and on the day Robbie had to go I managed to get a neighbour to bring her pony round quickly to keep him company. The vet kindly took him to see Robbie's body so he knew he was dead then he went off with a new chum and never looked back! Sparky was taken by HAPPA as a rescue when he was a foal and has been out to various homes on loan, so he is a very cool character. If Sparky goes first I would get another companion for Dennis on loan from HAPPA, but not sure what I would do if it as the other way round...
I think some horses form strong bonds, but mine have always just needed company.

A good age Wendy. I seem to remember once reading about a retired Clydesdale that was 43 years old.

My daughter still has her 2nd pony Gemma who's just turned 32 and Steph's had her for 27 years. We had to put her first pony down at 38, so plenty of years left for both yours yet.

During the bushfires in Victoria last year Steph got a text to tell her to prepare to evacuate the property. The first pony in the float was Gemma. She said it was very hard to prioritise the rest of the horses but there was no way she was leaving her. Ultimately the fire went around the property and no-one had to be moved but hard decisions were made.

Luckily, not much danger of a bush fire at Wendy's. Tripped over this pic yesterday. I'm sure we've had it before but a nice pic is always OK....

What a terrible situation to be in Liz, it doesn't bear thinking about. I worry that I won't have the energy or the money to carry on looking after mine for much longer.

Just having a good look at the above picture, I often find that the people in old pictures look so thin. I reckon that lady on the end in the black dress would be lucky if she had a 24inch waist!!

Well they all had people who stood on them and drew the corsets in.
I am fortunate, in that my 24 inch waist is natural.

I was thinking about dreaming last night. You have probably noticed that I deprecate the proliferation of gambling sites on the web and TV but I have to confess that for over forty years I have had an entry on the football pools using the same numbers every week. It has only coughed once and then just a small win. So why do I do it? It's simply that there is always a chance that one day I might get the letter to say I've won and I can dream about what I could do with the money. Well worth whatever it costs me on my direct debit. I couldn't even tell you how much it is! Bit like a comfort blanket....

Stanley Oh dear, oh dear! But guess what... I am the same with our X Lotto, I only buy the minimum games each week ($2.60) and hope against hope that I will win big and get a call on Sunday morning to let me know. Must be part of the human condition for some people (millions of people), haha.
