I've been taking photos of the blossom on Barlick's trees for a couple of years; concentrating on those in public places. Some of my pictures from previous years are posted on the Visit Barnoldswick site. This year, I've tried to take a close up when the blossom has appeared as I've been passing by. (The blossom on the last picture had been on the tree for a while before I took the photograph.) I'm thinking that the photos will be a record of how soon/late the blossom is each year.

Taken before the weekend. Strong winds will have stripped a lot of petals from the trees yesterday.

One of the governing factors of the pear crop each year is the weather around the blossom time and it's nice to see that this years
's blossom has not been knocked back by a late frost. Could be a good crop of pears on that tree this year!

This deeper red isn't very common in Barlick, example pictured is on West Close Road where there are trees at the entrance to Victory Park and St Joseph's school.

Wow, beautiful pictures, wish I was in Barlick.
It feels like constant sweeping here at the moment with all our trees losing their leaves, if this year is like other years my street will be full of leaves soon.

The blossom has been particularly splendid this year in Barlick; when we get to autumn (and the leaves dropping), there ought to be a splendid harvest of berries and fruit.

There will be good crops of fruit and berries this year, wonderful season for blossom, no big winds, no hard frosts.

I noticed yesterday that the lilac in my front garden has more blossom on it than any year since it was planted. Can I add some pics I did this morning that reinforce the point that this is a wonderful Spring?

Image

The lilac in the front garden, not quite fully open but masses of it.

It's not just the blossom, the foliage is so fresh and green. Valley Gardens this morning.

Image

I don't know what this shrub is but it's a mass of lovely little yellow flowers. Just at the top of East Hill back street.
We are having a wonderful Spring and it's a joy to see the blossom. This is good for the insects and the birds and later on there will be wonderful crops of fruit and berries. Let's not forget the grass as well. There will be some good silage crops this year and I expect to see an early start on cutting.

I suspect the pollinators are struggling to deal with all the blossom.

There's a dazzling mass of white flowers on the hawthorn now.

Image

I can't recall a year when there's been such an abundance. (I heard myself telling the kids to take notice yesterday, as they may never see the like again...)
