Stanley's Xmas dinner photo reminded me....If I heard right this morning John Humphrys was talking on the radio about kids not liking Brussels sprouts. He said that he'd got an agreement from his young son to at least eat one sprout at every Xmas dinner. When the son was older John reminded him that he'd been persuaded to eat sprouts by that method. The son replied, "It didn't work. When you weren't looking I would pick up the sprout off my plate and put it in my pocket!"

I wish all my friends on this strange / unique website a happy Christmas and prosperous New year.

Thanks for the entertainment, education, anecdotes, and words of wisdom, and for putting up (or ignoring ) my burblings / witterings for another year. Must get this low self esteem looked at.

Stanley just said "David, you're probably right". That has produced a warm glow which will probably last the weekend. Best wishes to you all. :thankyou:

Tiz, I'm in the middle of a bowl full of Xmas dinner and the sprouts are lovely and so good for me!
David, glad you got a warm glow, you have given me my share over the last year. Thanks to all of you, David is right, this site is quite unique and wonderful.

We've had a bit of a Griswald Christmas...they say things come in threes.
Febby was trimming branches in son's backyard, and snipped thru son's Christmas Lights.
After lunch, we did the dishes and Febby ( washing up) immersed son's digital meat thermometer in the washing up water. It ceased to function, but after some time drying out it seems to be working again.
That just reduces us down to a large string of outdoor Christmas Lights to replace....

Then, this evening, I decided to pack a few things away in the bedroom we are occupying, in preparation of the journey home tomorrow. One of my gifts had been a six pack of Guinness Cans ( love Guinness at Christmas!).
I went to pick up the room temperature six pack to pack it in a bag...when a can exploded...covering the walls, ceiling, mirrored robe, quilt, pillows, bedside cupboard and carpet ( and me!) in Guinness. Took us an hour to wash every surface.
Talk about Christmas Gremlins...
Will be sleeping under bedding that stinks of Guinness tonight, but it's too late to wash it all (quilt will need washing too)

By the way, my washing machine has been declared dead and will be replaced under warranty...at some point...but unlikely until New Year.

Maz, save the other 5 cans, wrap them up and then when next Xmas comes give them as a present to the person who gifted them to you! :laugh5:

Ha...Tizzy it was a present from my son ( the one whose Christmas Lights my husband wrecked).
When we finally cleaned up the mess and I had showered and changed, we examined the can, which had been placed in the sink. The top was still in tact and sealed. The side had burst.

I'd post the can to Guinness and ask them if they've gone into the terrorism business! :laugh5:

"A Griswald Christmas" !
Maz, it's become a tradition in our house to watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve...it is wonderfully corny and we laugh hopelesly at Sparky's attempts to have the perfect family Xmas year after year! Still time for the turkey to explode...

We can relate to that hapless family this Christmas.
We have managed to pack the car this morning without further incident...HOWEVER :geek: :geek: ..Febby has spotted son's garden tap is dripping (groan) and they are about to head out together to fix it before we leave. I don't know why I am full of dread. Fingers crossed we don't have a gusher...

I have a problem with 2 of my electric light sockets, every time I put in a new light globe they immediately blow. They are in my dining room and kitchen. I will have to let my landlady know but I have decided to wait until after the new year so as not to bother her over such a busy time. I knew I wouldn't be called upon to feed the five thousand so I don't really need bright lights. I have been using a lamp and a candle or two and it's been fine.
Anyway... When Dave and Marilyn were here on Christmas Eve Dave decided to investigate and he switched off my electricity. Everything went off ofcourse and (thank goodness) everything came back on.
Later when I went into my bedroom my clocks were flashing 12.00
so I put my 2 clocks to the correct time which Dave told me was 7.38. At midnight my alarm went off on one of them and one clock said 7.50 and the other 12.50. I was tired so I didn't fix the time until Christmas morning. Right, all is well and back to normal so I forgot about it.
On Christmas night at midnight the alarm comes on again. I was starting to think 'do do do do' and was someone playing games with me??. Then I realised that I had forgotten to reset the alarm. Phew!!
