Just to get it right. Are we in Lancashire or West Riding of Yorkshire. So many people have differing opinions. I just want to know the right address. I am in BB18.

Since the 1974 boundary changes we have been in Lancashire for administrative purposes. On the statute books the original boundaries are still valid so regardless of what many perceive we are still in the West Riding of Yorkshire as laid down by Danelaw. Being a border town there was always fierce County loyalty. You can see where my loyalties lie from my user statement in my posts, many will say the opposite but I know where I am.

For the record also you do not need to put the County with the BB18 postcode it will arrive if you put Yorkshire or Lancashire. You will also see that we have double sets of boundary markers, the Lancashire markers and the proper ones where the borders have been for nearly a thousand years.

Ian is quite right Anna. As a historian I have always maintained that the ancient shire boundaries are inviolable and Eric Pickles, the Local Government minister in the coalition government of 2010 was eventually forced to admit this is the case. Parliament can only change administrative areas, not the ancient boundaries. In practice, Barlick has always been a place apart, nominally in Yorkshire but fiercely independent.

Well - it seems we can't quite agree on where we are or for that matter when the seasons begin and end, but I think we can all agree its now 2018 . . .

You only get damp squibs for fireworks, you ought to have heard them here! I was still enjoying the amber liquid with a friend until 1:30 am and the noise didn't worry us.
