Wine Lovers Corner
Wine Lovers Corner
I'd say there was enough enthusiasm for the subject to start a new Topic. I've been known to have a drop myself.
Kev says he likes Malbec. I've had it, but have no memory of the experience. (Not the first time - Ed).
The one he refers to from Aldi, seems not to be available online, but they have plenty of others.
Aldi Malbec and nearly all well within my target price. I'll give it a try.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
It's very smooth and I'd drink it with almost anything, not that I need an excuse. There are some very refreshing whites available in Aldi too, the Kamala (I think that's what it's called) range have a very nice Chenin Blanc.

Always remember, there's no such thing as a bad red wine. If it causes a sharp intake of breath just add Coca Cola for a refreshing Kalimotxo.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I think I like Italian wines best - influenced by the recommendations of Tony my Italian barber.
I've just popped down to the cellar (wardrobe actually) and posed the current occupants.
Arranged as in the Antiques Roadshow well known order of good - better - best from left to right.
Generic then two Primitivo - or should that be Primtivi ?)
PS - one day I'll find the focus thingy, but you get the idea.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I drink Aldi Australian Chardonnay’s, which seem to vary quite a bit. Sadly when I find one I really like, it disappears and I have to test drive some of the others.

Our pink fizz was lovely. A pink fizz from Saumur by Ackerman, normally £10 plus a bottle but for us 4 euro . It matched well with our canapes of cream cheese, smoked salmon, gherkins, olives and my favourite , warm sausage rolls. The mine pie and fizz were definitely incompatible . We finished all food and the wine. Its coffee now

Wife and myself are winos...
...sorry, I mean we enjoy a glass of wine. But it has to be dry.
This is a good dry Chardonnay at a reasonable price. For red, their Petite Sirah has a nice spicy taste to it.

Fizz and canapes, what a great combination. A traditional Christmas Day breakfast, in chez Kev, involves scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, bacon, sausages and Cava with a splash of cranberry juice. A very sociable breakfast unfortunately missed last year.Sue wrote: ↑13 Nov 2021, 20:47 Our pink fizz was lovely. A pink fizz from Saumur by Ackerman, normally £10 plus a bottle but for us 4 euro . Gloria. Try that Bogle if you can get a bottle. We pay between $9 (supermarket) and $13 (liquor store/offie).
Here's another well priced dry red wine we like.
McManis Cabernet Sauvignon.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Thank you sir. We seem to have struck a rich seam.
I'm a fan of Primitivo which in Oklahoma would be known as Zinfandel
Saturday night is always risky in Trippsland/ I've managed to contain the damage tonight to a selection of Malbecs from Aldi.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I think it best to let you kids play out by yourselves on this one. I used to enjoy wine particularly when I was with my mate John Martinez (LINK) who taught me all I know about wines. However, over the years I have become almost teetotal.
Brilliant idea David, I think the most popular start-up I have ever seen on the site.

Certainly a good topic and a pleasant wine appreciation evening last night. Watch this space for this evenings red to go with our roast beef.

I'm going to try this Sauvignon Blanc from Aldi tonight.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the two varietals we have tried this Summer and enjoyed.
The other is Pinot Grigio which has a nice fruity taste.
Personally I prefer the latter although both are good.
Tried a bottle of Moscato but after 2 tastes decided it was way too sweet for us so abandoned it.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Sue and I have a bottle of Bonza, Australian shiraz cabernet from Laithwaites to drink tonight. Well just half a bottle because we each had a glass out of it on Friday.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
My Cambalala was very drinkable for a £3.89 wine. My favourite Aldi Sauvignon was Makaraka from New Zealand, but that has been unavailable for a while now.
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Our wine went beautifully with beef pot au feu, but I think it might fail with baked home grown apple and home made amaretto ice cream. My sister would have a thing or two to say about that combo. Salt enhances a wine, sugar deadens it. This one will be deadened I think. we will finish the wine first. Looking forward to the ice cram.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Strong stuff - does a somersault when I click on it.
Prices are interesting - I've never seen anything at less than £4 a bottle in Aldi down here, and I'm quite a keen shopper. I looked on the website and they don't deny the possibility of different prices between online and stores, and also between stores. Fair enough I suppose - it's a free market.
