Beautiful David. I think the adjective is 'pure'. Her voice was amazing.
The nearest I can think to her but totally different, is Eartha Kitt. Her style of singing and delivery are also distinctive.

Re: OBITUARIES
Cathy, your post on Meisner came in as I posted. I didn't recognise the name but when they played 'Take it to the limit one more time....' all became clear, yes, I was a fan of the Eagles and their music.

Re: OBITUARIES
Good easy listening. There is a very good tribute band, Talon, doing the rounds. I will have to go...

Re: OBITUARIES
Saw the Eagles live at Manchester. Sally fainted in the middle of a row of about 50 on the top tier overlooking the stage. It was just as they started the highlight of the performance and their last song of the evening, Hotel California. Stewards attended and we got her out to the isle. I heard it fade away as we were going down the lift to the medical centre at the arena.

Re: OBITUARIES
Just seen on Facebook that our member Colin Myers (Nolic) has died in the early hours of this morning. I saw the other day when we were away that he was waiting for tests at the hospital and I wished him well at the time.
RIP Colin.
RIP Colin.

Re: OBITUARIES
That's sad news indeed. I have been looking at his Facebook page for a long time. This what he posted only yesterday.
Sat waiting to see a doctor at Airedale Hospital.
Feeling ropey since lunchtime. Only had a little tea and headed for bed at about 6pm. Weak as a kitten and could not get fully up the stairs and ended up falling about 3/4 down. Didn’t hurt anything but a minor carpet burn.
In a heap at bottom of stairs so Cath called ambulance who decided to take me to hospital.
RIP Nolic.

Re: OBITUARIES
From the Facebook page - posted by his daughter Charlotte -
"Colin’s funeral will take place at Skipton Crematorium on Tuesday 22nd August at 10:50. Family flowers only, and any donations can be sent in his name to Pendle Dogs in Need."
Rather disturbingly she also says -
Charlotte Langstroth -
Eileen Perkes - he wasn’t very unwell - he had an infection and was discharged from hospital with antibiotics. He died peacefully and there are still questions that we need answering but please don’t feel guilty because he wouldn’t have wanted his friends to feel bad - Charlotte (Colin’s daughter)

Re: OBITUARIES
People may have forgotten that the reason Colin and I addressed each other as 'Comrade' wasn't because of any left-wing affiliations but because he and I were the founder members of OFAL, (OLD Farts and Lurchers) He had Misty and I had Jack.

Nice try - but I'm not convinced. Bear in mind that I've been reading stuff from you both for more than ten years.

I love this version of The Weight.
Re: OBITUARIES
I don't often look in this thread so I'm late saying how sorry I am to hear the sad news about Nolic. Yes, it must have been a shock for his family.

Re: OBITUARIES
I've just listened to James O'Brien on LBC who turned his entire show into a tribute at almost no notice. Very interesting set of callers who knew or worked with him, going back fifty years.
O'Brien said that once in his role as show business correspondent he rang him for a comment on something and the response was brief - just two words - second one 'off' . Often my response to O'Brien too.
Surprised and a bit worried that fellow Barnsley Cricket Club lad Dickie Bird has not been heard yet. I hope he's OK.
Not heard mentioned that (I believe) he was in the Korean War, and I'm sure I read he was once the youngest Captain in the British Army. If that was during National Service - he did remarkably well for a working lad from Barnsley, who left grammar school with two O levels - in Art and English. He must have been quite a 'smoothy'.
Personally I can't recall ever watching a full show - I'm not much impressed by 'celebrities' - who were usually plugging something - but the highlights widely available now, are quite entertaining.
PS The velcro memory scores again - Wikipedia says
In the course of his two years' National Service, which began in July 1955, he received a commission as an officer in the Royal Army Pay Corps, becoming the youngest captain in the British Army at the time.[4] He saw active service in Egypt in the Suez Crisis as a British Army press liaison officer.[5][6]
PS Dicky Bird like me must be a late riser - he is giving a typical heartfelt emotional and tearful interview on LBC now. He is 90 years old and spoke to Parky only yesterday on the telephone. Said during the call - he thought he was nearing the end. Dicky urged him to keep fighting. He says Parky travelled up to Yorkshire for his birthday earlier this year despite being 'obviously unwell'.
That Dylan Thomas stuff about raging against the dying of light is nonsense I'd say. Rage all you want to - it'll do no good.

Re: OBITUARIES
I agree David but the principle is good. A bit of raging in protest never went amiss!
