WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

As someone once said, I like any website where people talk about what they're cooking for tea. We need to keep this one going! I am almost at the end of the latest roast stew. Had a nice bacon and tomato butty for breakfast.

Jules. What is it about bacon butties? Nothing hits the spot quite like them. I make a tomato dip. Fill a little tray with tomatoes cut in half, drizzle Worcester sauce and olive oil on them and sprinkle with sugar, salt and pepper and grill till just turning black, turn them over and do the other side. Keeps well in fridge and lovely as a spread under the bacon.

Day of bits yesterday. I have a couple of pork chops defrosting. I feel a small roast stew coming on! Winter warmer grub. Enough bacon and tomato dip for a butty for breakfast.

Bacon butty this morning with last of the dip, I made a quick roast stew yesterday with two pork chops and had that for tea. Good grub and very cheap!

Macaroni cheese & cauliflower bake with a bit of left over boiled ham mixed in. I opened a jar of my own pickled beetroot but it wasn't nice...much too vinegary! :sad:

A yummy milky loaf with a two tone, scaly crust, that has a kind of cracked surface.
( would take a pic, but I am afraid there are only crusts left)
We can buy it sliced, but prefer to buy it unsliced. The loaf I bought looked smaller than normal, and I noticed it was called a Tiger Tummy. Very Cute.

Butcher's day today. Always exciting for Jack as his best mince simmers on the hob. I have a helping of pork chop stew left and fancy a meat pie. I don't know whether it's a result of advancing age but I love some of the simple things of life. I had a fancy last night for a small cheese sandwich with brown sauce. You can't get much more basic than that and it was good. Nice when a treat costs so little!

Tiger loaves are available from the cathedral that has been under great discussion regarding location and Barlick - if you get my drift. Lovely bread for a purchased loaf.

Having lived off chicken taste panels, bing meals and sleep for the last several weeks; last night I semi-cremated sausages in gravy and onions (where did the gravy go?) cheesy mash and processed peas. Real gourmet stuff. On hols now (at home) housework and cooking.

Funny you should mention that Jules. I have the sausages cooked ready for making exactly that for tea today. Got a freebie yesterday at the butcher's. Stewart asked me whether I liked white sausage and I said yes but we never see it down here, very common in Scotland. He gave me a white sausage, said that someone had asked him to get some but never come back for it. No problems with sell-by date, it's 20/02/12. So I shall be having a Scottish breakfast this morning. Speaking of the Scots.... Belle, I had the French Onion soup you gave me last night. I had some roast pork stew left but not really enough for a growing lad so I bunged the soup in it. Went down very nicely thank you!

Both white sausage and sausage, onion and mash went down well. Same today as I have some left of each.

I got a freebie this week too, Stanley.
Every fifth visit to our speciality Chicken Shop gives me a £5 freebie ( loyalty card is stamped each visit)
So I chose some Chicken Strudels and paid the extra above the £5.
Chicken Strudels look a bit like Sausage Rolls but are longer and much nicer. Had them for dinner tonight with Baked Beans and Mashed Spuds.
( followed by Triple Choc Icecream for husband and son)

Always nice to get a Freebie Maz! Onion, sausage and mash bit the dust last night for tea (warmed on the new stove...). I have a black pudding in the 'fridge and plenty of eggs and fresh bread. A day of bits I think, we shall survive! I noticed that Morso do a very expensive CI kettle but they call it a 'humidifier'. Just for a laugh I fancy brewing a pot of tea on the stove. I have a sold base Aga type kettle....

Pot Roast Brisket, roasties, yorkshire puddings, cauliflower, roast parsnips tonight. As we did not get back until Saturday tea time and Jayne and bought some goodies in for us we did our shop this morning. We have missed a Sunday Roast for 3 weeks os having one tonight.

Maz...Your reference to Wild Alaskan Salmon reminded me of this.....
...I know it's not food related , but ...........
Anyway , yesterday I was actually allowed to cook.(long story)..... Roast Chicken (paprika crusted/lemon, garlic) butter beans and roast spuds ....the bird will "see us through the week".....!

Very amusing.
I was in the mood for faffing about, so I made a Frittata with the Salmon. (must say the Salmon was excellent quality...some of it didn't actually make it into the Frittata!). Also made a Potato Salad. We are still about 2 hours from the Master arriving home from work, so will make a fresh Garden Salad closer to the time.
Aren't you 'allowed' to cook on a regular basis, Bradders? Is that because Mum likes to do it? (Half your luck. Wish I had a Mum to cook for us.)
And did you make the Lasagne, Julie? (I quite enjoy the process of making Lasagne...love making the Bechamel Sauce)

The black pudding survived the day because I had a chip butty for dinner and a cheese and tomato butty for tea. A little of what you fancy does you good. I shall pop another loaf in the bread-maker and take a view later.... Black pudding for brekkers?

Yep.....I'm not allowed to tell anyone round here how old my Mum actually is .....She's always been worried that they will think she is too old to carry on as Church Organist , or won't come for piano lessons....(been the same for the last ten years !)
Anyway there's an 8 and a 7 involved , and I'm 65...so.....
Mum is remarkably active and really wants to do all the cooking "whilest I can....you can do it when I can't , and anyway I don't like your sort of food !"...Ha.
More power to her elbow ...eh.....
