GOOD TV
Re: GOOD TV
I've taken the first step to get my full ration of Freesat channels back - to include the BBC - now only in HD.
Started with a pleasant phone call to a nice lady in County Durham to make sure I had the right understanding of their product - there is some confusion in places between Freesat and Freeview. Then a little argument with myself to decide whether to upgrade to a larger set. Most say I should.
It'll be here tomorrow. The total cost has amazed me. Let's see then how it all turns out.

Re: GOOD TV
Watched episodes 4,5 and 6 of Fool Me Once, will catch up on last two tonight. The “posh” school in episode 5 is where our granddaughter went, and our grandson is still there. We watched to shrieks of ….. we’ve been up those stairs, we’ve been in that hall, it’s as impressive as it looks in real life.

I always like to see the opening scenes of the film 'Bullit' Gloria because it shows the entrance to the Mark Hopkins Hotel and I stayed there with Susi in 1979.

Re: GOOD TV
Watched last two of Fool Me Once, definitely to be recommended, kept us quiet and seemed to go very quickly, which is always a good sign.

Re: GOOD TV
Glad you enjoyed it Gloria. I have found most of the TV adaptations, of the Harlen Coben books very good. There was one that was produced in the US that wasn't particularly good (the name currently eludes me). There is another that was filmed around Morecambe, we found ourselves looking for familiar locations

Is the one filmed part in Morecambe called Stay Close? Might have a look at that.Big Kev wrote: ↑21 Feb 2024, 12:44 Glad you enjoyed it Gloria. Watched four parts of Stay Close last night, very good, takes a bit of concentrating on, but very good non the less. Hope to watch the rest tonight.

Re: GOOD TV
The brief answer is "don't ask"
Not well.
I spent all yesterday afternoon trying to make sense of it and gave up and put it back in its box, and restored the old TV. There's nothing wrong with the set itself I think it's me. Smart TV
Naively - I was hoping there would be a 'click' to get me the Freesat channels that I am used to, but there isn;t.
I have not even been able to tune to BBC 1 yet. I set it up as required, but it asked me to register for BBC iPlayer when I tried to access BBC. Five digit pin number was mentioned. I will not do that. I assume it wants to go via the Wifi not just the Freesat channels from the satellite antenna. This is similar to the issue I had when I got an HD Freesat box, which was quickly sent back. I rang the help line but no one was answering. I'll try again today.
I think I must have had a feeling this would happen, which is why I didnt buy a larger screen size. The amount spent on this one is 'write offable'. I'll ring them again today.
PS Got through first ring today, and the nice lady in County Durham has talked me through it all.
However now the antenna lead has given up, and I've sent for a new one on ebay . Should be here by weekend.
I am hopeful that all will be well in a few days.
PPS Bodged the F type connector cable and success! Problem was that in the set up, I chose the input as 'Antenna' rather than 'Satellite' (which I didn't notice). So - mission accomplished. I have all the Freesat channels, with a new set 'made' in Bishop Auckland by Cello Ferguson and total cost was about £165.
For me the set is immensely complex, but I have time now to play with the other features, which I will do when I get a new satellite dish connection cable.

Re: GOOD TV
Glad you eventually got sorted David. I had none of those issues because I shopped with the same firm I bought my first TV off in the 1960s and they set everything up for me.

Watched last four of Stay Close, it certainly needs concentrating on, and watching to the very end.

Re: GOOD TV
We watched the last three episodes last night. I only saw one scene in the last episode identifiable as Morecambe as it showed the brick built clock tower. All the other scenes were of Blackpool front taking care to leave out the tower, did catch a glimpse when they showed the shoreline from the sea though.Big Kev wrote: ↑21 Feb 2024, 14:17It is indeedGloria wrote: ↑21 Feb 2024, 13:14Is the one filmed part in Morecambe called Stay Close? Re: GOOD TV
Upcoming is the last in the present series of Call The Midwife. The timeline comes crashing into my memories, which I dont think were quite the same of London compared to how scriptwriting portrays it , but then my wanderings to East London were more on what was shown on TV (Town and Around in pre Nationwidedays. Funny how you get some kind of awareness of place (at least local to you) without ever going there , from what you see or what you read.
Re: GOOD TV
For those with Netflix, The Night Agent is well worth a watch. We're on episode 6 of 10 and it's good.

I started to watch Scott of the Antarctic but had to ditch it because the class structure it portrays is so repugnant to me now. When I was young it didn't worry me, I was used to it but that's not the case now, I hate it....

Re: GOOD TV
I channel hopped into BBC4 tonight - Daniel Barenboim doing Beethoven from The Albert Hall. That shows how bad TV is at the moment. All very pleasant and harmless, then it morphed into the EU national Anthem !
I don't like him - he didn't treat his wife Jaqueline DuPre very well as I recall it.
He looks a bit ragged, and too much like Prince Andrew for his own good, and I could see no corelation between his baton waving and the music. My status as a fully paid up Philistine is at no risk whatever.
