He gave this link to the solution LINK but the solution requires use of the terminal. Try what Kev suggested and if you look back at Pluggy's post you'll see some of my suggestions there. You cab try those too but if none of those easy options work send for Pluggy.

It's just the same on Windows. I've had two large updates in the last two days - one of them had an impressive total of over 45,000 files. No fuss, and everything seems to work afterwards.

I've been in there repeatedly Kev and it tells me spellcheck is enabled and yet it still doesn't work.....

Plan B I'd force updates and see if theres updates to fix the updates, It happens.

Every now and again updates break something. Just come back from a job where Windows had got it wrong.

I'm on the same 64-bit Ubuntu version as Stanley and have had the two big updates but my Libre Office spellchecker works as normal.

Stanley, have you clicked the Ubuntu System settings icon and then clicked Language Support? It should have `English (United Kingdom)' at the top of the list.

Another big update this morning, 170mb in the last three days. Tiz, I have tried everything and some of the 'options' are dead, they won't accept alterations. I shall soldier on for a while and wait to see if it cures itself, if not I'll get my mate Pluggy in.....

Have you tried un-installing then re-installing Libre Office? It's very easy in Ubuntu. Just click the Ubuntu Software Centre icon, then put LibreOffice into the search field. It will offer the full office suite as well as the individual applications. You could try it with Writer first and if that doesn't work try the full suite.

I leave interventions like that to Pluggy Tiz. I would do it in Windows in the old days, after all we spent a lot of time then re-installing dodgy components! But now I just ring my mate...... Far less stress!

I have a friend who often sends me the most hilariously confusing text messages ( combination of predictive text and poor eyesight, and possibly spelling errors).
On the weekend she texted to say her oven had blown up and she only had one working hot plate. Her landlord said he would call an election for her.

She really cracks me up sometimes...

I can identify malapropisms though.

Sky and Talk Talk have a broadband issue at the moment. The service has been down since 09:30 in Barlick and Settle.

Broadband came back on at 5:30 this afternoon, still no landline though.

Mine is Ian, I can only confirm that Sky was down. Facebook people were saying Talk Talk was down too...

Never noticed anything down but like Ian I am on fibre.
I have noted that Hive do a remote camera as well. Who would be daft enough to allow one of them through the door? Before you ask, the FM3 doesn't have a camera....
Big Ubuntu update on Canonical, they have been flowing thick and fast these last few days......

Call me a slow learner but I've just found that on Google maps that you can measure the length of a line. Zoom to where you want to be .. Right click...click on the drop down menu then left click on one point and again for for the second . This line can then be adjusted in shape and length.

Four thousand web sites including the Information Commissioner's Office, Student Loans Company...and Barnsley Hospital have been hacked by people mining cryptocurrencies. I wrote some months ago about how the `mining' uses vast amounts of computer power and could put the lights out soon if we don't stop it. This hacking is done to avoid the cost of buying computer power. The hackers put code on the web sites which then uses visitors' computers to do the mining. Panorama did a programme last night on the subject. With madness like this infecting the financial markets and no regulations to stop it disaster looms. Add in the automatic trading algorithms.....

There was video on the Panorama programme of one of the centres in Iceland next to a geo-thermal power plant.
The more we learn, the more we can be sure that there is an alternative, secretive sector of the financial markets dedicated to making money out of austerity and the collective madness of investors chasing profit from their capital in a climate where the 'normal' investment routes are less productive. The scale is huge and this money is being sucked out of normal investment and trade. As such it affects all of us. The political parties rely on these capital holders for their funding hence their kid-glove treatment of tax evaders, PFI sharks and the higher echelons of the 1%. It can only be seen as a web of corruption. Remember Cameron forecasting that the next big scandal was lobbying and capital meddling in government in his early days in 2010?
