Olive oil and garlic...well, there's no flies on Stanley so it must work!

I've crushed my garlic but used rapeseed oil instead of olive as we had a half used bottle at the back of the cupboard. Gave the boys a dribble rather than a glug in their tea, but will slowly build it up.

I'd say about a dessert spoonful, just give it a shake before you add it.

[Stanley]

Is it any wonder those two survive as well as they do? Lovely posts by both of you.

Yes, they are getting a good slurp in their tea every day. I'm tempted myself, it smells delicious!
Not sure if it has soaked into the ponies enough yet to be effective. Years ago I used to use dried garlic in their feed all the time and you could smell it when you picked out their feet! It's ridiculously expensive now so I much prefer your version.

Not quite a personal pet but a regular day visitor from a house somewhere down the lane. This black and white cat spends more time in our garden than it must do in its own. Turn round and its watching me seeing what I'm doing. Everything is one big game to it, dragging bits off your rake, put anything down and its there inspecting it. I'm even starting to talk to it. Whatever next.

No, a full compliment of legs. Looks like a kitten but must be at least 2 years old. It even comes into the garage to see what I'm doing. When shutting things down for the night I have to do make believe door closures to make sure it isn't sniffing around in the back somewhere. I only took these pictures because I was on with another project and the camera happened to be at hand.

Cat mystery solved. It was next doors cat or should I say cats. Two identical cats replaced a ginger tom that went to the promised land and the kids, that is owners, wanted to replace him. Lovely cats but waiting to see how they get along with the opposite neighbours new labrador pup that tears about like a madman.

Wheelbarrow wheels are not build to a formula 1 standard. Single ply. cheapo rubber and inner tube. What do you expect for £5.50?

Jack has a new friend in the back street, a whippet/lurcher bitch that thinks the sun shines out of his bum. I do like to see happy dogs getting on well with each other.

Is the oil and garlic working yet Wendy?

It makes you wonder at times why we bother to share our lives with a dog! Jack was acting strangely, I had an idea that something was imminent so I let him have the run of the yard. He doesn't usually pee there but after a while squatted down and had the biggest pee in the world. That seemed to solve matters so I cleaned up after him.
Then I realised what had happened. When I went to bed for my second sleep I left an almost full pot of tea on the table. He'd drunk nearly all of it and this is the effect tea has on him. I knew this and had forgotten. I must pay more attention!!

There's something very reassuring about a contented dog sharing your space. We would all do well to learn how to relax like this!

Wendy, how are the ponies doing on the olive oil and garlic?

They are still getting a dose every night Gloria, but to be honest it has been mostly cool and breezy for the last few weeks so not a good test!
Both boys seem very happy and well at the moment but I have my usual problem of one needing to keep weight off and the other needing to put it on. Dennis also has a lump on his neck which I'm assuming must be some sort of thyroid tumour but I'm not sure that anything can be done about it.

Here's a pic of Dennis and Bing Bong Bella the other night when I brought them inside because it was warm and still! Somewhere I also have a photo of what Sparky did to his tail whilst he was in his stable.

They are like old dogs, lumps come up. I tend to think if it's not causing them distress then why put them through what could be quite an invasive operation at an old age. I'm sure you'll know when and if he's not feeling right..

It doesn't look as if it causes any problems Gloria, unless it interferes with breathing. Benign neglect appears to be the recommended treatment!

That's my policy as well, benign neglect, works with us humans as well. Nice to have news of the Lads!

I'm listening to Monty Don talking about the loss of his dog Nigel. Well worth listening to, he talks a lot of sense about the value of a relationship with a dog. (It applies to any animal in some degree but more so with a dog if he is with you 24X7.) I'd urge you to listen to him, I agree with everything he says.

Sparky and Dennis gleaming in the sun yesterday after their pamper session with Becky who is back in business and visiting once a week.
