It results in a beautiful sweet dessert wine. We had a lovely talk about this by my sister, and Bob and I sampled from her selection of wines that she writes about

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Tried a different Aldi Australian Chardonnay on sat night £4.99 a bottle, didn’t care for it at all, tasted quite sweet, have gone back onto the cheaper £3,99 one.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I've found we prefer the cheaper Aldi wines, either the Kambala or Grapevine labels have been very drinkable.

My Dad was of the opinion that the only good wine was a cheap one!
I enjoyed the Beefsteak Club Malbec over the weekend.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
When we used to go camping regularly in France, Sally made it her mission to try and find the cheapest palatable jug of wine wherever we happened to be. We didn't use the supermarkets but the garages and small shops in the villages that vended by the jug. I think at the time (in the 90's) the best we did was 45p for a litre of red.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
My supplier returned to Sainsburys today for more Beefsteak Club Malbec. 6 bottles at £6 each with a 25% discount, plus a bottle of Mcguigans at £5.10 to bring the total spend over £30 so he could use a £4.50 off coupon. Result, 7 excellent bottles of wine for just over £26.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Ooh! Plus 6 bottles of Lidl South African Chenin Blanc for £18! That's me sorted for the weekend.
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I must really be slowing down - I popped into my private Sainsburys at Eddington last night and bought a bottle but didn't notice the deal. Perhaps it only started today.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
It started yesterday 24th November until 1st December.
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I missed that . I bought a Cote du Rhone 'House wine' and for a fiver it's not bad. It would not qualify for the 6 bottle discount though as the terms say "Excludes bottles under £5 in England". though it is not marked as a qualifier on the main list, so I guess it really means 'excludes bottles £5 and under'
I think they are in need of a resident pedant.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
All this talk of wine reminds me of how we spent our honeymoon touring and camping in France. In Beaune we went to several cellars for tastings but the highlight was one where we turned up and cheekily asked if we could see the cellars. The lady said that the boss had just taken a French family down to choose wines but we could have a look. Down the steps we went, expecting to be sent off into a corner, but `the boss' saw and told us to come and join in the tasting. They were buying a red wine which to us was nectar of the gods after what we were used to as students! It was Vosnes Romanee. We've cherished that memory and I've just looked it up on Wikipedia and another site LINK

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I'd recommend this fruity little number from Lidl, can't comment on the price as it was a gift. It's very smooth and It's going down well with sirloin and a baked camembert.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
I tried that a week or two back and found it quite harsh but it improved after being open for 24 hours. 2 bottles under the stairs still so I might give it another go with something meaty!
