Wine Lovers Corner
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
It was quite cold when we drank it (straight from the cellar) which probably softened it a bit. It complimented the sirloin and camembert well in our opinion.

An interesting article for you wine drinkers. The author did the wine Education Trust course run by my sister Jane of onefootinthegrapes.

I like the final sentence. "The main thing is to enjoy wine. There are no rights or wrongs – just explore and discover.”Sue wrote: ↑03 Dec 2021, 17:00 An interesting article for you wine drinkers. The author did the wine Education Trust course run by my sister Jane of onefootinthegrapes.

I agree - it's all a bit subjective. Some people have a well developed sense of smell and taste, and some just don't. I've put my nose in many a glass, but rarely smell anything, and oak and tanin are a mystery to me. The likes of Jilly Goolden and Jancis Robinson have the gift.
I'm celebrating today's good news with a touch of Fletchers Ruby Port. It's very tasty and good value.
I got a bottle of this Cote du Rhonelast week from Sainsbury's and like it so much that I went back to take advantage of the 25 % offer. Never mind the reviews - it's very good.
Of course - it was all gone. Might try again next week.

That's the trouble with finding a good wine, you go back and it's all been snaffled.....

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Janes approach to tasting is a breath of fresh air. No fancy terms, if it smells like old carpet to you well thats what it smells like. There is also a lot of genetics to tasting so e people can taste some chemicals and others can’t. Its what you taste that counts. We have a new member in our wine group, who said she knew nothing about tasting. She now realises she does. Its not what you taste, or how you describe it, but wether you like it. Jane also reminds us not to read the label about the taste or aroma as that is merely a sales pitch to draw you in.

Bought some new wine glasses from TKMAXX today, be rude not to test them out so we opened another bottle of the Lidl SA Shiraz. I tried to smell it but couldn't define anything in particular, it just smells like red wine to me
The tasting side of things was a bit better, blueberries I think with a very slight acidic after taste, it certainly comes across as smooth to me though. It was accompanied by an Aldi 'Etna' pizza (fine dining here at Chez Kev).

If Etna is an indication of what happens after you have eaten it its just as well you dampened it down with a couple of bottles of red stuff.
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
An interesting spin off from the hobby- though perhaps 45 tests per day are a bit too many. . . .

I bought a bottle of Hardy's Voyage Shiraz for a fiver at the Co-op so I could go up-market and de-glaze my pan after searing the rib steak and the onions.... It worked and came though nicely in the result.

In the villages around the slopes of Etna they sell a fiery liquor with the name Fuoco del Etna (Fire of Etna).

Kev's choice of the day, this went well with the bolognese type bowlful we had for tea. I do like the wine from Aldi.

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
A Jewish joke for all you wine lovers...
A rabbi and a priest get into a car accident and it’s a bad one. Both cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of the clerics is hurt. After they crawl out of their cars, the rabbi sees the priest’s collar and says, “So you’re a priest. I’m a rabbi. Just look at our cars. There’s nothing left, but we are unhurt. This must be a sign from G-d. G-d must have meant that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace the rest of our days.” The priest replies, “I agree with you completely.” “This must be a sign from G-d.” The rabbi continues, “And look at this. Here’s another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of Mogen David wine didn’t break. Surely G-d wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.” Then he hands the bottle to the priest. The priest agrees, takes a few big swigs, and hands the bottle back to the rabbi. The rabbi takes the bottle, immediately puts the cap on, and hands it back to the priest. The priest asks, “Aren’t you having any?” The rabbi replies, “No…I think I’ll wait for the police.”

I opened another bottle of this to add to a casserole after finding the last bottle harsh but I'm really enjoying it this time!
Re: Wine Lovers Corner
Good news. Maybe the last one was a 'Friday afternoon' bottle

Re: Wine Lovers Corner
The casserole was good too, I fancied doing a chicken chasseur but Col wanted me to use a couple of duck legs from the freezer instead of chicken. It was very tasty!
