Earby Photos
Re: Earby Photos
When were they demolished?
They seem to have gone when looking down Riley Street in this 1950 image.

I think they might have been higher up...
This is Garden Street in the 1950s. Very different houses.

Re: Earby Photos
I think I've got it right now! The Alms Houses were further up Stoneybank, here they are opposite Spring Mill but they pre dated the mill.

Re: Earby Photos
Remember earlier when I put this image up of the big barn at the junction of Chapel St and Stoney bank?
That row of house shows on there.

Re: Earby Photos
Joan Smith, long time volunteer at Ellenroad and Hedley Bradshaw who was the last engineer at Spring Mill. He lost his memory later in life and Joan visited him regularly.
This is Sophia, Hedley's wife. She had a beautiful voice and once at a concert Kathleen Ferrier advised her to train and go professional but she never did.....

Earby floods 1964.
I believe the flooding was in September, my family moved to Earby from Bradford 2 months later.

Re: Earby Photos
From my 20 years working in Earby it certainly looks like it. Well named Water Street leading to Red Lion Street or Stoneybank.

I believe this was taken from New Road looking towards the gasometer. So that would be Vokes in the background to the right.

Albion Road during the 1964 floods.
The shop on the right has now been converted to a house. My daughter and her husband lived there before moving to Barlick.

A few years ago when combing the internet for interesting images I stumbled upon this model of Earby Railway Station.

Re: Earby Photos
The model railway society who built this model asked the history society for photographs of the railway station and the surrounding area. The buildings were made with a 3d printer.
Re: Earby Photos
Not even sure where White Lion St is (or was). I don't see it on my old map when I look in the area of the pub.
Maybe it's not even near the pub...

Re: Earby Photos
Not sure which street it was exactly but definitely within the triangle opposite the White Lion that is now the 'village green'.
