Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
I had an idea of how to estimate the number of unique cards in the index and I've just been upstairs and measured it. There are between 22,000 and 25,000 cards. I'd estimate 23,000. That impressed even me!

I know that pride cometh before a fall but I thought I'd give you a picture of what a clean sink looks like. As near as I can get it this one is clinically sterile at least once a day (and that includes the taps, the drain and the interior of the spout.)
I know I'm obsessive about it but it's not a bad obsession, could be part of the reason why I suffer so little from infections.....

Exemplary. . . .
Here's the maiden speech from New Zealand's youngest MP.
I think perhaps she should get treatment for her obviously low self esteem.

What caught my eye on the above video, is what is hanging from that guys ear? I’m assuming it represents something, not just a fashion thing.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Thank You David
As for the lady in Parliament, I see what you mean. I am assuming that's a form of 'haka'?
Well spotted Cathy, I hadn't seen it until you mentioned it.... Very strange.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
It's come around again. . . I don't make a fuss about it, and this year almost no one else did either.
No cards this year, even my hamburger card's battery has gone flat. I see it's ten tears (Freudian typo - years ) old, so not really surprising.
I like it so I will try and do a "Repair Shop" on it and change the battery. I do not anticipate success.
Lucky I put it on You tube for posterity.
Happy Birthday

Thanls all for the kind wishes.
As I suspected the card repair didn't go well, there's quite a bit of gubbins inside it. I even destroyed a spring loaded Stanley knife in the process. That's the sort of thing that usually happens.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
I look forward to meeting up with you each morning David and can't help shaking my head as I hear the news about the card. All I can recommend is a concentrated course of viewing The Repair Shop and the purchase of a small watchmaker's lathe. I could get you knurling in no time at all!

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
Tried that - keep on shaking your head - hopeless case. I haven't done it any serious damage though, I might try again.
I had a haircut, mentioned elsewhere, and afterwards it occurred to me that including the tip (I round it up to cancel the OAP's concession) it cost me - either two weeks gross pay when I first joined the army, or slightly more than half of the monthly mortgage payment on my first flat.
So what I hear you cry. . . . it makes me wonder if inflation is anything to worry about, or perhaps I've turned into a boring old fart..

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
No David, you are simply commenting on a fact. Even in Barlick, where I suspect prices are lower than in Cambridge, a haircut is ridiculously expensive.
Long ago I bought an electric clipper and haven't spent any money in a barbers since. A buzz cut is easy and very fashionable these days.....

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
The daughter then asked her mom if she could have a 'real Stanley' - a request that gave Dayna pause.
'Do I think a nine-year-old needs a Stanley? No,' the mom reflected.
'Do I have one? Yes, I have one,' she emphasized.
'I don't have 50 Stanleys in all different colors. I'm not going to Target and fighting other women or moms to try and get the new Valentine's Day Stanley,' Dayna said in reference to the escalating hype around the viral item.
The craze around the product has reached a fever pitch as of late, a phenomenon encapsulated by recent videos capturing long lines and even scuffles breaking out at mega-stores offering certain limited-edition versions of the product.
I'll leave members and guests to find the context of this puzzling cutting from today's Daily Mail.

They've taken the influencers by storm, all the celebs have to have one. Ordinary folk look on and wonder why so much fuss is being made over what really is a glorified baby's bottle!

"Stanley made over $750m last year, "
That was the bit that caught my eye.... Must have a word with my legal people, no sign of it in the account as yet!
To be serious for a moment, I have never heard of them, the only firm that uses the name Stanley that I know of is the hand tool-maker. (LINK)
Surely it can't be them?

Not only is the name of the place unfortunate, but they also can’t spell.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
The report out today Rochdale abuseseems to vindicate the whistle blowers and criticises the powers that be, No real surprise there then.
It covers the Rochdale situation, and I strongly suspect there is a similar situation in Oldham, which seems to be being successfully supressed at the moment. I will promote these books to the top of my 'pending' pile.

Got an email from the Co-op
As a member of our Co-op, we are focused on the things you care about. Our members have told us that managing household costs is a top priority and so we’ve listened and now we’re responding. By making changes to our membership benefits, we’re giving you more immediate value back.
From 24 January, you’ll no longer earn rewards for purchasing Co-op products and services. Instead, as a valued member, you’ll always save more with exclusive Member Prices across Food, Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services, giving you savings on the things you need.^
Something that won't change is our commitment to supporting local communities. We'll continue to do this through our Community Partnership Fund, and a dedicated £4m in funding to support existing Local Community Fund causes.
What does this mean for you?
From 24 January 2024, you’ll no longer earn 2p for every £1 spent on Co-op products and services.
